Abstract:

An improved method of obtaining fluorescence measurements which may be used as a measure of the CETP-catalyzed rate of transfer of a lipophilic non-polar fluorescent cholesteryl ester between lipoprotein particles is disclosed. The method may be used in assays for screening CETP inhibitors.

Abstract:

An elevator control system includes an elevator system with at least one elevator car configured to travel to a plurality of floors. An electronic controller controls the elevator system to deliver the elevator car to a given floor in response to an elevator car request. A mobile user includes a display screen and is installed with a secondary-touch detection system that detects a first touch action applied to the display screen and a second touch action applied to the display screen. The mobile user device launches a full service request user interface in response to detecting the first touch action, and performs at least one of launching a pop-up service request user interface and automatically communicates the elevator car request to the controller in response to detecting the second touch action.

Abstract:

The polyprenyl phosphate: N-acetylhexosamine-1-phosphate transferase family are glycosyl transferase enzymes of interest in the development of antibacterial treatments. The bacterial proteins WecA and MraY are exemplary transferases, each of which catalyzes the transfer of a specific hexosamine 1-P from a soluble UDP-hexosamine substrate to a polyprenyl phosphate carrier at the membrane surface. The present invention provides a generalizable, high throughput, one-pot assay for this type of enzymatic activity by incorporating a solid-liquid, bead-based separation system to selectively adsorb the highly hydrophobic products of the reaction. By judicious choice of radiolabeled UDP-hexosamine precursor, the assay format can be used to quantitate the products of diverse members of this transferase family as well as enzymes that catalyze the further modification of these transferase products. Thus, the use of this flexible assay format allows biochemical and enzymologic analysis of many such membrane bound transferases.
