Abstract:

An ice cube-making machine that is characterized by noiseless operation at the location where ice cubes are dispensed and be lightweight packages for ease of installation. The ice cube-making machine has an evaporator package, a separate compressor package and a separate condenser package. Each of these packages has a weight that can generally by handled by one or two installers for ease of installation. The noisy compressor and condenser packages can be located remotely of the evaporator package. The maximum height distance between the evaporator package and the condenser package is greatly enhanced by the three package system. A pressure regulator operates during a harvest cycle to limit flow of refrigerant leaving the evaporator, thereby increasing pressure and temperature of the refrigerant in the evaporator and assisting in defrost thereof.

Abstract:

An evaporator assembly and method of making the assembly wherein a refrigerant flow path is created that covers a large area of the back of either one or two evaporator pans. The refrigerant conduit includes a plurality of elongated sections that are non-circular, for example, rectangular, in cross-section. The sections are sized and spaced so as that refrigerant flow therethrough covers substantially all of the backs of the evaporator pans. The sections are formed with either tubes or ridges. The evaporator assembly is made by using bonding processes and/or die casting processes.

An evaporator device and method of making the device. The evaporator device comprises a one-piece metallic body, which is preferably aluminum or an alloy thereof, with a refrigerant tube embedded therein. The metallic body further includes horizontal fins and vertical partitions protruding from at least one surface that define an array of ice forming cells. Abstract:

An ice-making machine having an assembly and a controller that controls said assembly to make ice. A sensing device senses a current level of ice in an ice bin that receives the ice made by the assembly. The controller compares the current level to a high set point and a low set point and, based on a current energy rate, controls the assembly to maintain the current level at or near the high set point when said current energy rate is low and at or near the low set point when the current energy rate is high to provide energy efficiency. The controller and sensing device are part of a retrofit assembly that retrofits an existing ice machine with the energy efficient feature.
