Abstract:

A packet mapper prioritizes streams of data packets in a computer network, each data packet having a packet header containing feature values descriptive of the data packet. The packet mapper includes a mapping table that associates application-related features with network-reserved feature values from a range of feature values reserved for use by selected network data packet streams, and a feature value mapper that performs at least one of (i) in each packet header having an application-related feature value associated with a network-reserved feature value, substituting the associated network-reserved feature value for the application-related feature value, and (ii) in each packet header having a network-reserved feature value associated with an application-related feature value, substituting the associated application-related feature value for the network-reserved feature value.

Abstract:

A system and method is disclosed for providing dynamic multimedia jitter buffer adjustment for packet-switched networks. The system temporarily stores an amount of incoming data, which is dynamically adjustable, for an amount of time before sending the data out in a more even stream. The system includes a decoder clock, a jitter buffer, a network jitter statistics collector, and a jitter buffer controller. The decoder clock indicates the arrival-time of the data at the system, while the network jitter statistics collector collects the playback-time of that data. By comparing the arrival-time and the playback-time, the jitter buffer controller determines whether the data arrived on schedule. Accordingly, the depth of the jitter buffer can be adjusted to accommodate the late or early arriving data.

Abstract:

A system and method for increasing entity bean performance in an application server environment. The system reduces the need for multiple or unnecessary queries by formulating a join query for the related beans and applying this query to the database. When a request is made to a database to read or retrieve a set of EJB beans, related beans are simultaneously retrieved and stored in a cache. In this manner, when the client sends a request for any of these related beans, they can be supplied from the cache rather than making another call to the database.

Abstract:

A method and system are provided for storing multiple instances of a CMP bean enrolled in a transaction by utilizing CMP batch operations to update multiple entries in a database table in one SQL statement only, thus avoiding multiple database roundtrips. The batch operation of CMP beans can be enabled by specifying certain options in a DTD file. As part of the batch operation feature, another option may be added to the DTD file as well, enabling the container to delay all database operations in a transaction until the commit time, automatically sort the database dependency between the operations, and send these operations to the database in a way to avoid any potential database constraint violations.
