Abstract:

A television program ratings method and system includes transferring information associated with households from a cable provider to a ratings provider such that the ratings provider has access to information associated with sampled households and lacks access to information associated with non-sampled households. To this end, identity information and usage information associated with the households are respectively anonymized and encrypted. Knowledge of the identities of the sampled households enables the anonymized identity information and the encrypted usage information for the sampled households to be respectively de-anonymized and decrypted. The ratings provider knows which households are sampled households. As such, the ratings provider de-anonymizes and decrypts the information associated with the sampled households and then uses the de-anonymized and decrypted information to determine television program ratings. The cable provider anonymizes and encrypts the information for all households as the cable provider does not know which households are sampled households.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatuses and systems for inserting advertisement segments into trick content. Advertisement segments present in the original video content are extracted from the video content and merged with other navigation segements to generate associated trick content. The advertisement segment may be inserted into the trick files may be displayed at their normal playback speed, a different apparent playback speed, or displayed in a different direction. Additionally, alternative content of the advertisement segment may be inserted into the advertisement segment to provide specialized versions of the advertisement content to be displayed in trick content mode, or the content may be completely different fro the original advertisement content, such as session specific advertisement content or even user specific advertisement content based on user preferences.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to a hand-held device for cutting or heating medical implants, in particular for cutting and bending resorbable implants. The device comprises a heating element electrically connectable to a power source (e.g., a battery), a switch for selectively completing the circuit between the heating element and the power source, and a housing for enclosing the battery and associated electrical connections. The invention is directed to a kit comprising a handle assembly and multiple interchangeable cutting or heating tips for use therewith. One tip member is configured for heating an implant to a sufficient temperature to cut the implant while a second tip member is configured for heating the implant to a sufficient temperature to bend the implant. Abstract:

A method and system is disclosed for facilitating voice mailbox operations for a mobile phone capable of operating in both a CDMA and a GSM environment. The system has at least first and second switching points and a global switching point in communication with a control point. Upon a first switching point detecting a busy/no answer condition for a request to terminate a call to a called station (the call originating from a calling station), the first switching point forwards the terminating call to a temporary, unique forward-to number belonging to the global switching point which then sends at least one message to the control point, the at least one message identifying the unique forward-to number designating a voice mailbox. The control point then identifies the second switching point from the unique forward-to number and sends a first call treatment message instructing the second switching point to apply voicemail treatment at a voice mailbox linked thereto.
