The invention relates to a device for attaching fixation elements to bone, having a longitudinal member with a channel extending therein adapted for receiving at least one fixation element. A shaft extends within the channel and is positioned coaxially within at least a portion of the longitudinal member and at least a portion of the shaft is retained within the longitudinal member and a distal end of the shaft is configured and adapted to contact at least a portion of the fixation element received within the longitudinal member. The longitudinal member is moveable with respect to the shaft to drive the fixation element into bone.
Magnetic Storage Systems And Methods Allowing For Recovery Of Data Blocks Written Off-Track With Non-Constant Offsets
A magnetic storage system includes a disk, a head, an actuator, a read channel, and a main controller. The main controller causes the head to read a data block of a selected track of the disk at each of a plurality of fixed offsets from a center of the selected track. The main controller samples a gain in the read channel a plurality of times while the head is reading the data block at each of the plurality of fixed offsets to obtain a plurality of gain samples for each of the plurality of fixed offsets. If the data block was written off-track with a non-constant offset, the main controller determines an approximate starting position and an approximate rate of change of an off-track deviation of the data block based on the plurality of gain samples for the plurality of fixed offsets.

Abstract:
A system for enhancing the error correction capability of an error correction code (“ECC”) during error recovery operations accumulates, for respective bits, counts of the number of times the bits are detected as 1s in multiple re-reads of a data signal. The system then determines, based on the associated count, if a reconstructed bit should be considered a 1 or 0, or neither, that is, if the reconstructed bit should be considered erroneous, by comparing the count to a majority detection threshold and then to either an upper or a lower predetermined threshold that corresponds to the confidence with which the bit is reconstructed as a either a 1 or a 0. If the confidence is sufficiently low, that is, if the count falls below the upper threshold or above the lower threshold, the reconstructed bit is flagged as erroneous. After all of the bits are reconstructed, the system groups the bits into symbols to reproduce the ECC codeword, and sets erasure pointers that identify the locations of a predetermined number, s, of the symbols that are associated with the highest degree of uncertainty, that is, the largest numbers of flagged bits or, as appropriate, the largest numbers of flagged bits with the lowest confidence levels. The error correction operation then decodes the symbols in the identified locations as erasures.
Method And System For Protecting Cable Television Subscriber-Specific Information Allowing Limited Subset Access

US Classification:

Abstract:
A television program ratings method and system includes transferring information associated with households from a cable provider to a ratings provider such that the ratings provider has access to information associated with sampled households and lacks access to information associated with non-sampled households. To this end, identity information and usage information associated with the households are respectively anonymized and encrypted. Knowledge of the identities of the sampled households enables the anonymized identity information and the encrypted usage information for the sampled households to be respectively de-anonymized and decrypted. The ratings provider knows which households are sampled households. As such, the ratings provider de-anonymizes and decrypts the information associated with the sampled households and then uses the de-anonymized and decrypted information to determine television program ratings. The cable provider anonymizes and encrypts the information for all households as the cable provider does not know which households are sampled households.

Abstract:
A system and method for identifying which signals provided by a head-end are accessible to CPE of a subscriber in an HFC network. The method includes obtaining a partial list of signals accessible to the CPE, and then applying heuristic rules on the partial list to generate a complete accessible signal list. Obtaining the partial list includes discovering signal information regarding a subset of the signals which are accessible to the CPE; using the discovered signal information to obtain a signal identification of a signal accessible to the CPE; and generating the partial list based on the obtained signal identification. Applying a heuristic rule includes using a bit mask within the obtained signal identification or a naming convention of the obtained signal identification to identify other associated signals. The partial list is then generated based on the obtained signal identification and the signal identifications of the other associated signals.
