Abstract:
A structure for identifying and modifying a computer operating system components includes a component table including a list of possible components of the operating system. An identifier structure is configured to access the component table and to interrogate the operating system to determine which components in the component table are loaded in the operating system. A build structure is coupled to the identifier structure and configured to compile identified components in the component table and to generate a table of the identified components. The resulting structure defines loaded components of the operating system and can then serve to assist additional structures in modifying the operating system. Modification structures search the table of loaded components to determine how to modify the operating system to achieve desired results. Advantages of the invention include the ability to identify and modify loaded components of the computer operating system.
Method For Imparting Anti-Static Characteristics To Non-Conductive Fluids
A method for imparting anti-static characteristics to fuel is provided, the method comprising supplying a hydrocarbon fuel and mixing the fuel with an ion, contained in an inorganic compound, to reduce the electrical resistance of the fuel.
Corruption And Its Deterrence In Swarm Downloads Of Protected Files In A File Sharing Network

US Classification:

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for corrupting a swarm download in a file sharing network provides corrupt data in response to a request for a portion of a file so that when portions received from various sources are assembled, the assembled product cannot be verified and the process must be repeated. To defeat the method, bad sources are identified and disconnected or otherwise ignored, or good sources are identified and given higher priorities. In another method for deterring unauthorized copying of a protected file in a P2P network, a P2P client offering the protected file is choked with agents connecting to it so that its upload capacity is diluted. In another method, false sources for a protected file are injected into a file sharing network so as to dilute the legitimate sources, making them more difficult to find.
Corruption Of Swarm Downloads In A Decentralized Network Employing Advanced Intelligent Corruption Handling
An eMule network employs Advanced Intelligent Corruption Handling (AICH). Agent clients offer copies of a corrupted version of content. When the corrupted copies participate in swarm downloads with uncorrupted copies, the AICH is triggered. The agent clients are sufficient in number to out vote all other clients in a trusted root hash determination performed by the AICH. As a result, one of the agent clients provides a recovery packet used by the AICH to determine good and bad blocks. Since the recovery packet includes block hashes for the corrupted version of the content, blocks uploaded by clients providing uncorrupted versions are determined to be bad blocks and the clients identified as bad sources. The agent clients, on the other hand, either fail to upload a requested block or do so in a manner to discourage a user of the downloading client to wait for completion of the upload.
A new method and tool for removing the conventional spin-on oil filter cartridge which typically is threaded onto the engine block of an internal combustion engine in proximity to other engine parts and which comprises the wrapping of the cartridge or canister with one end portion of a length of flexible material with the balance of the length coming off of the canister tangentially in the direction of unthreading the canister from the motor block; cinching of the end portion around the canister; extending the opposite end of the length tangentially away from the canister to a remote position spaced from the engine block and parts; and manually pulling on the free outer end of the length tangentially of the canister to tension the length and to apply a rotating torque to the canister and unthreading it from the motor block. The tool comprises a length of flexible material dimensioned for the purposes outlined above and cinch means for applying compressive force and rotational torque to the cartridge upon tensioning of the length.
