Abstract:
Methods of caching data in a computer wherein a cache is given a number of caching parameters. In a method for caching data in a computer having an operating system with a file caching mechanism, the file caching mechanism is selectively disabled and a direct block cache is accessed to satisfy a request of the request stream. Cache memory can be expanded by allocating memory to a memory table created in a user mode portion of the computer and having a set of virtual memory addresses. Methods of caching data can include creating an associative map, and optimizing the order of writes to a disk with a lazy writer. Methods are further assisted by displaying cache performance criteria on a user interface and allowing user adjustment of caching parameters such as cache size, cache block size and lazy writer aggressiveness. A user may further be given the ability to enable or disable a cache for a given selected disk volume.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for allowing the location of transmitter to be determined (approximated) without requiring its distance from a receiver to be precisely known. Methods for determining a location of a transmitter without precise distance calculations. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed having the steps of: for a receiver, estimate a first zone a first transmitter is in; for remaining receivers that can receive a given transmitter, each estimate a second zone a first transmitter is in; and determine if there are overlaps in any of the zones. In another embodiment a potential target area is defined wherein the location of a transmitter can estimated.
System And Method For Performing Object Association Using A Location Tracking System
The present invention provides a method of recording object associations using a location system. Object locations are determined based on signals generated from object identifiers linked to the objects and forwarded to an electronic device interfaced with a network. Once the location of the object has been determined, the location determining module consults a database to determine associations between the located object and other objects or specified locations based on the other objects proximity to the located object. Once an association is determined, it is stored and the duration of the association is subsequently recorded. The data from the identified associations may then be leveraged in a number of ways as input data for a variety of applications, such as billing software, equipment utilization software, asset management software, and automatic event generation software.
Systems, methods and computer program products for accurately determining the location of people or objects are disclosed. The location of people or objects is calculated based on a received signal strength indication (RSSI). The distance between a transmitter and a receiver is calculated in a manner that can reduce or eliminate the effect of multiple paths of a signal between the transmitter and the receiver. Therefore, the location system provides a mechanism for determining the RSSI value accurately regardless of the multiple paths between a transmitter and receiver.
A system and a method for detecting if a person has fallen down is provided. The system includes at least two sensors which remotely detect energy in at least two zones. The output of the sensors are analyzed and compared to characteristics which are determined to be representative of a fall. If the sensor outputs match the particular characteristics, the system concludes that a fall has occurred and outputs this result. An alarm may be generated if the system detects a fall.
A wayfinding device is provided for giving directions to a desired destination within a building having a plurality of wayfinding beacons configured to transmit data using an ultrasound signal. The ultrasound signal can include a plurality of bursts, wherein a sequence of predefined time intervals between consecutive bursts within the plurality of bursts uniquely identifies each wayfinding beacon. The wayfinding device is separate from the wayfinding beacons and includes a wayfinding beacon recognition component configured to identify a wayfinding beacon when the device receives the data through the ultrasound signal from a wayfinding beacon. The device is further programmed to provide directions to a user of the device in a direction toward the desired destination in response to identifying a wayfinding beacon.
A system is provided for establishing a compliance zone and monitoring interactions therewith. The system includes a compliance zone designator and a wearable device. The compliance zone designator transmits an ultrasound signal to establish the compliance zone. The ultrasound signal may be encoded with information on the compliance zone. The compliance zone designator is configured for placement at a location in which the compliance zone is desired. The wearable device is separate from the compliance zone designator. The wearable device includes a compliance zone recognition component configured to recognize the compliance zone and identify one or more pre-defined interaction criteria for the compliance zone. When the wearable device is within the compliance zone, the compliance zone recognition component recognizes the compliance zone and identifies the interaction criteria of the compliance zone. Based on the interaction criteria the wearable device determines and records compliance with the interaction criteria.
In one embodiment of the invention, a location system is provided using both RF and IR signals for the determination of an object. Another embodiment of the invention provides a direct network connection for a receiver. The direct connection may be provided for connection to an Ethernet network, a telephone network, a cable TV network, a UTP network, a Universal Serial Bus (USB), a medical telemetry network or the Internet. A web server is optionally provided according to an embodiment of the invention. According to a further embodiment, a fixed location identifier is provided to receive signals from a transmitter and then transmit a signal to a receiver, which may be connected to a network. According to a further embodiment, two identifiers may be transmitted, one identifier corresponding to an object, while a second identifier identifies a group designator of the object.
