Abstract:
A method for controlling a powertrain system includes determining minimum and maximum states for an object component of interest based upon a plurality of linear constraints that are associated with operating parameters for the torque machines and the multi-mode transmission. Minimum and maximum objective battery powers are determined based upon the minimum and maximum states for the object component of interest. When the minimum and maximum objective battery powers are outside the minimum and maximum battery power limits, a problem recomposition process is executed to recompose the minimum and maximum battery power limits and the linear constraints. Recomposed minimum and maximum states for the object component of interest are determined based upon the recomposed minimum and maximum battery power limits and the recomposed linear constraints. The recomposed minimum and maximum states for the object component of interest are employed to control the powertrain system.

Abstract:
A powertrain system includes an internal combustion engine, a multi-mode transmission having a plurality of torque machines, and a driveline. A method to determine extrema for an objective function employed to control operation of the powertrain system includes establishing an objective component equation related to an objective function and corresponding to an object component of interest. A plurality of linear constraints and a non-linear constraint are imposed on the objective component equation. The objective component equation is solved in relation to the plurality of linear constraints and the non-linear constraint to determine the extrema for the objective function. The extrema for the objective function are employed to control operation of the powertrain system.
Method And Apparatus For Determining A Solution To A Linear Constraints Problem In A Multi-Mode Powertrain System
A method for operating a powertrain system includes determining an objective function for an object component of interest of the powertrain system. Constraints are determined for a plurality of independent variables and dependent variables. Permutations of the objective function are evaluated with reference to the independent variables and the dependent variables. The objective function is evaluated to determine maximum and minimum values for the objective function for each of the permutations. Overall minimum and maximum values for the objective function are determined based upon the maximum and minimum values for the objective function for each of the permutations. Operation of the powertrain system associated with the object component of interest is controlled based upon the overall minimum and maximum values for the objective function.

Abstract:
A method for determining a preferred engine speed and a preferred engine torque of a selected operating range state of an electro-mechanical multi-mode transmission configured to transfer torque among an engine, at least one electric machine and a drive includes selecting between of a first search window and a second search window. Each of the first and second search windows includes a two-dimensional search window definable by a first axis having minimum and maximum engine speed values and a second axis having minimum and maximum engine torque values. A plurality of candidate operating points within the selected one of the first and second search windows is iteratively generated. One of the plurality of candidate operating points within the selected one of the first and second search windows is iteratively determined as an optimum operating point.
Operational Risk Assessment For Autonomous Vehicle Control

International Classification:

Abstract:
Changes in the controlling of an autonomous vehicle are caused based on an operational risk determined for the autonomous vehicle. An operational risk monitor module of the autonomous vehicle uses information about objects detected within an environment in which the autonomous vehicle is located and predicted behaviors of those objects to assess the operational risk of the autonomous vehicle along a planned path. The operational risk is used to determine whether to cause a change in the controlling of the autonomous vehicle, for example, based on a comparison between the operational risk and a previously estimated operational risk or based on a determination that the operational risk exceeds a threshold. The operational risk monitor module transmits a signal to one or more control system modules of the autonomous vehicle to indicate to change the controlling of the autonomous vehicle based on the operational risk.
