Abstract:

An integrated searching/browsing mechanism employs user-constructed information hierarchies that represent a cognitive framework for the organization of information. The hierarchies are independent of the information itself. This feature permits them to be shared among multiple users, and applied to any of a variety of different sources of information. The hierarchical organization that is provided by the framework gives the user the ability to browse around any available document database in a manner that is intuitive to the user. Two or more hierarchies can be combined to locate documents which match the criteria of both hierarchies, and thereby refine search results to an appropriate level. A relevance feedback mechanism further enhances the browsing experience, by concentrating the search results in areas that are most relevant to documents selected as being of particular interest.

Abstract:

A method of generating a correlation between a plurality of sets of educational requirements and learning activities, and identifying the educational requirements to which a learning component of the learning activities is correlated. Teachers and authors accessing the correlating system are able to author and select learning components to be correlated to the plurality of educational requirements sets. An educational requirements set can be a set of state educational standards, a set of school district educational standards or a set of corporate training or certification requirements. The correlation of educational components to the grouping of educational requirements and of learning components to a set of educational components are generated and stored by a server, preferably accessible over the internet through the public switched telephone network. Using the correlation system of the present invention, teachers and authors have the ability to develop lesson plans which are correlated to standards within the plurality of sets of educational requirements.

Abstract:

A token generator such as a keyfob is used to access the computer of an authentication entity different from the authentication entity that issued the token generator. The token generator stores authentication entity identification information identifying the authentication entity that issued the token generator. The token generator causes a user computer to transmit an authentication request including such authentication entity identification information together with a token generated in synchronization with the authentication entity issuing the token generator, so that the authentication request can be routed to the appropriate authentication entity that issued the keyfob for validation. The authentication request can be sent directly to the authentication entity that issued the token generator. The authentication request can also be sent to the authentication entity that issued the token generator via another authentication entity to which the user computer attempts to access.
