Abstract:

Retrievable vena cava filters for the temporary or permanent prevention of Pulmonary embolism (PE) are disclosed. A filter in accordance with the present invention has a tube-within-tube structure with overlapping semi-spheres. The semi-spheres comprise a plurality of expandable legs. The first tube may have a first set of expandable legs and a plurality of slots allowing for deployment of a second or third set of expandable legs on the second tube. The free end of each leg in the first set of expandable legs is oriented in a direction opposite to the free end of each leg in the second set forming a cage which comprises legs from the first and second sets of expandable legs. The filter of the present invention may be retrieved by a catheter and snare. The third set of expandable legs conveys the vector force from the closing of the first set to the second set to cause it to collapse.

Abstract:

Devices and methods used to obtain a tissue sample utilizing a vacuum assist are disclosed. The devices include a handle, an inner cannula, and an outer cannula. The devices include a vacuum tube in communication with a sample notch of the inner cannula. The handle is actuated to drive the inner cannula into a lesion such that the sample notch is disposed within the lesion. A vacuum is generated in the vacuum tube and the sample notch as the stylet is driven into the lesion. A tissue sample is sucked into the sample notch and the outer cannula is displaced over the sample notch to sever the tissue sample from the lesion.

Abstract:

Devices and methods used to drain a spinal cyst are disclosed. An opening may be created by a medical device, such as a nested needle assembly, that is inserted percutaneously into a facet joint adjacent to the cyst. The needle assembly may comprise a first elongate member, needle or introducer cannula; a second elongate member, inner cannula, needle, or trocar; and a piercing needle. The piercing needle may be used to microfenestrate a wall of the cyst such that fluid within the cyst is permitted to drain from the cyst.
