Abstract:
A vibration isolator is provided that includes a plurality of elastomeric members. The vibration isolator also includes first and second supports. The first and second supports cooperate with the plurality of elastomeric members to isolate and damp vibration between the first and second supports. The first support defines a first raised portion. The second support is spaced from the first support and defines a second raised portion facing the first support. The first and second raised portions are structured to cooperate so as to define a recess therebetween adapted to at least partially receive at least one elastomeric member. The vibration isolator also includes at least one fastener that is structured to mount the at least one elastomeric member between the first and second supports such that the elastomeric member(s) isolates and damps vibration transmitted between the first and second supports.

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are provided for a tubular composite structure with particular application to the design and assembly of space vehicles. The apparatus, designated herein as an X-strut, comprises alternately crossing tow-placed layers of parallel strands of a composite material, to form top and bottom intersecting faces. Alternately crossing strand layers are built up from the bottom faces to form the side walls of the tubular composite structure. The top and bottom faces and the side walls are configured to form intersecting tubular members in an X-shape. The layers of strands run continuously through the intersecting tubular members to form an integral joint, without the need for adhesive bonding or mechanical fasteners.

Abstract:
A cryogenic propellant storage tank system and method are disclosed that thermally couple LO2 and LCH4 tanks together by using either a single tank compartmentalized by a common tank wall or two separate tanks that are coupled together with one or more thermal couplers having high thermal conductivity. Cryogenic cooling equipment may be located only in the LO2 tank while the LCH4 is cooled by the LO2 tank interface. Embodiments of the invention may employ both LO2 and LCH4 liquid acquisition devices (LADs) for low-gravity use. In further embodiments, only the LO2 LADs may be integrated with thermal cooling equipment.
Method For Fabricating Composite Structures Having Reinforced Edge Bonded Joints
A ceramic matrix composite structure has a reinforced core for carrying loads. The core includes a web connected between the facesheets by edge bonded joints for transmitting compressive, tensile and shear loads. The edge bonded joints are laterally reinforced by bridging members bonded to the facesheets, on opposite sides of the webs The bridging members may comprise low density, high temperature rigid foam.

A composite structure and an associated exhaust washed structure are provided which may be formed of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials. A method of fabricating a composite structure which may include the CMC material is also provided. A composite structure may include a corrugated septum extending in a lengthwise direction. The composite structure may also include a flute within which the corrugated septum is disposed to form, for example, a partitioned flute assembly.

Abstract:
An integrated composite structure with a graded coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) is formed by selecting a plurality of layers of materials with a graded CTE and using build-up (bottom-up) fabrication approaches such as metal deposition or powder metallurgy to produce a CTE-graded layered composite preform, which is then consolidated and heat treated to create the CTE graded integrated composite billet or near net shape. The integrated composite billet or near net shape is then processed to produce a first surface for attachment of a first structural member having a first CTE and to produce a second surface of for attachment of a second structural member having a second CTE.
