Abstract:

The present invention relates to a method for forming microparticles of a material from microdroplets of a solution, wherein the solution comprises the material dissolved in a solvent. The method includes the steps of directing the microdroplets into a freezing zone, wherein the freezing zone is surrounded by a liquified gas, and wherein the microdroplets freeze. The frozen microdroplets are then mixed with a liquid non-solvent, whereby the solvent is extracted into the non-solvent, thereby forming the microparticles.

Abstract:

Small diameter particles of biologically active molecules are produced by atomizing solutions of the molecules through a nozzle into very cold liquified gases, which immediately freeze the atomized droplets. The resulting frozen particles having diameters of approximately 10 to 90 micrometers are lyophilized to produce porous particles, suspended in a non-solvent for the molecules, and exposed to ultrasonic energy or homogenization to produce particles having diameters of 0. 1 to 10 micrometers with greater than 70 to 95% of the initial biological activity of the molecules in solution.

Abstract:

A liquid, water-repellent, substantially anhydrous, spray-pumpable skin protectant composition is disclosed. The composition is designed for spraying directly onto skin, has suitable adherence to the skin, and resists running. The composition contains one or more actives, one or more rheology modifiers, and a carrier. The rheological modifiers can be waxes and/or associative thickeners such as some forms of silica. The carrier can be mineral oil or a mineral oil replacement (e. g. , isohexadecane, cyclomethicone). Film-forming components also help the composition resist running. One indication for which the composition may be formulated is diaper rash. The active ingredient for diaper rash may be dimethicone and preferably also zinc oxide.

Abstract:

In one embodiment, a gateway for a constant delay network identifies a baseband clock that is synchronized by exchanging synchronization messages over a packet switched network. The gateway then generates a strobe by manipulating the identified baseband clock using a custom multiplier that is selected according to transmission variables. The gateway then signals a front end component to process fixed length packets for transfer to a back end component according to the generated strobe, which can reduce or eliminate buffering by the back end component and can improve cable modem operation.
