For five years, Bennett's parents had been waiting for the trial of Michael Jacques to begin, to see, finally, what they hoped would be justice done on behalf of their 12-year-old daughter, whom law enforcement says was kidnapped and killed by her uncle, Michael Jacques, in 2008.
Federal prosecutors havent said what prompted U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to agree to the deal that would have Michael Jacques plead guilty to charges stemming from the 2008 death of Brooke Bennett in exchange for a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors said in a news release after the close of business Friday that they expect Michael Jacques to enter the guilty plea in the death of his niece Brooke Bennett.
