Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a non-aqueous composition curable by UV radiation broadly comprising a mixture of two UV curable urethane acrylates. The invention is also directed to a coating process using such composition. One of the urethane acrylates is the reaction product of an isocyanate and a specific OH functional lactone ester (meth)acrylate. The other urethane acrylate is the reaction product of an isocyanate and a specific hydroxy functional (meth)acrylate.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of blocked polyisocyanates containing isocyanurate groups by a) reacting 20 to 80 equiv. % of the isocyanate groups of an organic diisocyanate with a pyrazole or triazole blocking agent, b) trimerizing the remaining unblocked isocyanate groups in the presence of a basic trimerization catalyst until the isocyanate content is less than 2. 5% by weight, based on the weight of the blocked polyisocyanate and c) optionally blocking any remaining isocyanate groups with a blocking agent for isocyanate groups. The present invention also relates to the use of these blocked polyisocyanates for the production of polyisocyanate addition products.

Abstract:

A polyaspartate composition is provided which comprises a reaction product of a diamine and a diester reacted at a ratio of diamine equivalents to diester equivalents of from 1:0.95 to 1:0.50. The polyaspartate compositions of the invention may be combined with polyisocyanates to produce polyurea compositions, e.g., coatings, adhesives, sealants, composites, castings, and films, which exhibit a faster cure time along with faster development time for physical properties such as hardness and tensile strength.

Abstract:

The present invention provides an aqueous polyurethane dispersion (PUD) comprising an amorphous polyester having a glass transition temperature (T) as determined by differential scanning calorimetry of less than −30 C.; wherein the aqueous polyurethane dispersion (PUD) has a glass transition temperature (T) as determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of 0 C. to 20 C. and a hard block content of greater than 50%. Coatings, adhesives, sealants, paints, primers and topcoats, made from the inventive aqueous polyurethane dispersion (PUD) pass detergent resistance testing according to the American Architectural Manufacturers Association's standard, AAMA 615-13, have a pencil hardness according to ASTM D3363 of at least 3H, and are particularly suited for use on low surface energy substrates such as vinyl and other surfaces including floors, windows, doors, window frames, door frames, window shutters, railing, gates, pillars, arbors, pergolas, trellises, gazebos, posts, fencing, pipes and fittings, wire and cable insulation, automobile components, credit cards, and siding.
