Abstract:

The present invention provides a stapler with a novel leaf spring actuation mechanism. According to the teaching of the present invention, the stapler comprises a striking plate for dispensing a staple from a staple magazine, a leaf spring engaged with the striking plate for driving the striking plate, and an actuation bar for lifting the leaf spring from a first position to a second position whereby lifting the striking plate from an initial position to a release position in which the leaf spring is released from the actuation bar to drive the striking plate towards the initial position. Preferably, a pair of lugs on the actuation bar pushes up a pair of tabs on the leaf spring when an L-shaped front end of the actuation bar moves upward along a ramp when an external force is applied to the actuation bar during the stapling operation.

Abstract:

The stapling apparatus of the present invention comprises a base member and a magazine member for accommodating a set of staples, each member having a first end and a second end, and the two members being pivotably connected to each other at the first ends. The stapling apparatus further comprises a striking plate for individually dispensing the staples upon actuation by a striker spring, and a triggering mechanism for triggering the actuation of the striker spring. In particular, the triggering mechanism comprises a triggering lever arranged such that the triggering lever triggers the actuation of the striker spring when the second ends of the two members are moved toward each other.

Abstract:

A housing for an audio or a video tape cassette is disclosed, including a housing body formed by a bottom rectangular panel which is slightly larger than the cassette. The bottom rectangular panel is connected to four depending side wall extending forward and perpendicular to the periphery of the bottom panel to form an enclosure with an access opening at the top of the housing body. A swingable tab is provided in at least one of the side walls proximate to the access opening. The swingable tab provides opening and closing of the enclosure and of the access opening to removably receive and hold the cassette therein. The swingable tab is connected to the side wall by a film hinge having an essentially curved or arcuate connecting portion with a reduced thickness which is substantially less than the thickness of the side wall and of the swingable tab. The swingable tab has a parabolic surface configuration. When the swingable tab is opened the swingable tab has an outward bowed convex configuration, with the convex surface extending outward from the side wall to permit an unobstructed access opening into the enclosure for removal or insertion of the cassette therein.

Abstract:

A child resistant flip-top closure. The base of the closure is provided with an upwardly projecting rib which lies alongside the lid or movable element of the closure when the lid is in the closed position. The rib impedes access to the lid and hence opening of the closure. The rib includes a resilient portion which can be manually engaged and flexed outwardly, away from the lid to provide access to the lid. The resilient portion of the rib may be curved inwardly along its top edge.

Abstract:

A disk-like support member is dimensioned to be attached to a spout end of a thermoplastic tube in snap fit engagement. A tear band is attached to the member periphery by weakened regions. A cap is hinged to the support member to close the spout. The tube has an annular groove. The tear band has a first rib which locks to the annular groove of the tube and a second rib which engages a recess in the cap to lock the cap to the tear band in a closed condition. The locking arrangement is such that the tear band must be removed to remove the support member from the tube or to open the cap.

Abstract:

A biasing hinge is disclosed which is made up of a first hinge member and a second hinge member integrally hinged together along a curved line. The hinge members are shaped so that when one hinge member is swung relative to the other, the members are resiliently deformed or stressed and energy is stored in said hinge members. This stored energy will bias the hinge members to swing to an open or a closed position depending on which position is nearest said hinge member at a particular time. The hinge can be molded with the hinge members having the desired shape to provide the necessary stresses to provide the desired biasing. The hinge can also be molded as an integral part of a cap or closure.
