Abstract:

A method of coating an article to prevent yellowing of the clearcoat is described. The method comprises the steps of (A) coating at least one layer on an article with a coating composition comprising a cross-linkable polymer and a cross-linking agent, said composition being substantially free of strong acid, (B) coating a clearcoat layer above the layer from step A) with a coating composition comprising 1) a polymer comprising a hydroxy functional group, and 2) a blocked isocyanate cross-linking agent, and C) curing the coated article.

Abstract:

This invention, therefore, relates to the field of polyurethane coatings for use in automobile basecoat/clearcoat systems. In particular, this invention relates to the discovery that incorporating a long-chain carboxylic acid of at least 50% by weight of the carboxylic acid component used to make polyester resins which are further incorporated into polyurethane resins provides basecoat composition exhibiting low temperature flash characteristics. These low temperature flash characteristics are exhibited even where the basecoat is deposited at 50-90% relative humidity.

Abstract:

An object-oriented framework is used to build cooperative objects. Objects can span processes on different machines connected by a network. The objects are used to build distributed or cooperative applications which execute in multiple environments without having to write significant additional code to enable such functionality. Each cooperative object has two parts: an agent object and a server object. Requests for services are made to agent objects by the application program (via an asynchronous interface) as if they were local objects. The server object performs the requested service in the server process, possibly using other server objects or systems (e. g. , DB/2), and returns the result to the associated agent object. A Distributor and Dispatcher object in each process handle communication between agent and server objects. The Distributor receives all incoming messages and routes them to the appropriate objects in the process.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for setting the relative magnetic relationship between a Hall Effect switch with a given operating field strength and a permanent magnet to operate the switch and having a magnetic field with a field strength greater than the operating field strength. This invention can be used for adjusting the toggle point of a combined Hall Effect switch and magnet or the dwell between the operate point and release point of the switch. This method or apparatus comprises the steps of determining the actual switching point or dwell of a combined Hall Effect switch and operating magnet, which switching point or dwell is controlled by the combination of the field strength of the magnet and the operating field strength of the switch, determining the difference between the actual switching point or dwell and a desired switching point or dwell and then modifying the magnetization of the permanent magnet to shift the actual switching point or dwell toward the desired switching point or dwell. This method and apparatus can be operated a series of times to bring the point or dwell toward the desired value and the desired switching point or dwell is within a selected range. The method is used to set the spacing between both the operate point and the release point of the switch to control the dwell of a unit used in the ignition system of an internal combustion engine and which includes a magnet and a Hall Effect switch mounted together.
