Abstract:

Provided are methods of preparing an electrically conductive polymeric foam. The methods include the following steps: (a) contacting a polymeric foam with a surfactant solution; (b) contacting the polymeric foam with a sensitizing solution; (c) contacting the polymeric foam with an activation solution; and (d) forming at least one metallic layer on the polymeric foam with an electroless plating process. Also provided are electrically conductive polymeric foams formed by such methods. The present methods and foams have particular applicability to the manufacture of EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding devices.

Abstract:

Disclosed are methods and apparatus for improving the resiliency and airflow through a honeycomb air vent filter while providing EMI shielding. In one embodiment, the honeycomb can be manufactured from a dielectric (e. g. , plastic) substrate to provide improved resistance to deformation as compared to conventional aluminum honeycomb. The dielectric honeycomb substrate is metallized to provide EMI shielding capability. The metallized honeycomb substrate is cut slightly oversize to fit an opening in an electronic enclosure, which results in elastic deformation of resilient perimeter spring fingers that are used to hold the metallized dielectric honeycomb in place and provide electrical conductivity between the metallized dielectric substrate and the enclosure, thereby eliminating the use of a frame. In another embodiment, additional conductive layers can be added to the metallized dielectric honeycomb. In yet another embodiment, the metallized dielectric honeycomb substrate can be utilized in a framed configuration to provide improved durability.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for addressing a congestion condition in a communication network are disclosed. For example, the method receives an alert for at least one of: a trunk or a Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC), where the trunk or the PVC is associated with a route. The method determines whether the alert is associated with a congestion condition by determining whether a trunk utilization has exceeded a first predetermined threshold for the trunk or for the at least one trunk supporting the PVC. The method then rebuilds the route if the first predetermined threshold is exceeded for the trunk or for the at least one trunk supporting said PVC.

Abstract:

A stamped and scored one-piece container lid with an integral push-in tear tab has a ridge embossed in the tear tab and a push location to the rear of the ridge. When the push location is depressed, the tab tears along its score line and rotates into the container. The ridge prevents the user's digit from sliding along the declining tab through the opening in the lid left by the tab and possibly contacting the sharp edge thereof. Special indentations may be formed in the lid at or near the opposite ends of the score line which make it easier to depress the tab to produce a large effective pour opening in the lid.
