Abstract:

An apparatus is provided for applying to a surface of mammalian tissue including soft, living tissue an initially fluent material and then activating the material by exposure to an energy source. The material may be a liquid capable of polymerization to a non-fluent state by exposure to actinic light. The device, and methods that may be practiced in association with the device, enable a wide range of medical conditions to be treated including, for example, the application of a barrier to soft tissue to prevent post-surgical adhesions.

Abstract:

A system and method for providing a remote alert from a clock radio to a user at a predetermined time without disturbing others around him. The clock radio is preferably a superheterodyne receiver and includes an alert signal circuit for providing radio frequency alert signals at a predetermined alarm time and a radio frequency transceiver for receiving broadcast radio frequency signals and for transmitting radio frequency signals including the broadcast radio frequency signals and the radio frequency alert signals. A timing circuit in the clock radio includes a coincidence detecting circuit which detects the coincidence between the time of day and the predetermined alarm time, and causes the alert signal circuit to provide an alert signal to the radio frequency transceiver for transmission to a selected wireless remote alert device at the predetermined time. The selected wireless remote alert device receives radio frequency signals at the predetermined time, including the radio frequency alert signals, and processes such received radio frequency signals in a manner similar to the superheterodyning technique. The thus processed signal will then be provided to a transducer in the wireless remote alert device, which will in turn produce a tone or a small vibration, or reproduce the broadcast AM or FM signal.

A method for use in a voice mail reply apparatus having first and second memories for storing audio information, including the steps of storing a voice mail message in the first memory, starting the playback of the voice mail message from the first memory and simultaneously storing the voice mail message in the second memory while the voice mail message is being played back, interrupting the playback of the voice mail message from the first memory, recording a response in the second memory, and sending the voice mail message and the response stored in the second memory to the voice mail originator.

Abstract:

A visual disk-capacity indicator for indicating to a user an approximate amount of disk space available for recording data on a floppy disk is located proximate a peripheral edge of a cartridge housing the floppy disk. The visual disk-capacity indicator includes a transparent window that provides visual access to an indicator needle. The window includes indicia showing various capacity levels ranging from empty to full. The indicator needle has a first end slidably engaged with a first guide rail and a second end slidably engaged with a second guide rail to maintain a longitudinal axis of the indicator needle in a parallel relation with the indicia. An access opening at the peripheral edge of the cartridge proximate the visual disk-capacity indicator allows a small external arm to enter the cartridge to adjust the indicator needle. The indicator needle may also be adjusted by magnetic member.

An apparatus and method for re-recording a recordable disk using two recording heads including the steps of recording a program on a disk using a first record/playback head, playing back the program recorded during the recording step using the first record/playback head, setting start/stop flags to mark sections of the program to be re-recorded, playing back the program using the first record/playback head and simultaneously routing the sections of the program to be re-recorded to a second record/playback head, re-recording the sections of the program to be re-recorded using the second record/playback head, and erasing the remaining area of the disk which was not re-recorded during the re-recording step.
