Abstract:

A laser tissue fusion device is optimized for particular surgical applications to join tissue layers. The device has two opposed arms that engage and disengage to clamp and release layers of tissue therebetween. The distal end of the first arm is disposed opposite the distal end of the second arm. A laser energy source generates therapeutic laser energy is either integrated within the device is a separate unit. An energy pathway transmits the laser energy to the distal end of the first arm to deliver the laser energy to tissue layers clamped between the distal ends of the arms. An actuator decreases the separation distance between the distal ends of the arms to clamp the tissue layers and activates the laser energy source upon engagement. The laser energy source delivers a burst of energy at a predetermined wavelength for a predetermined period of time sufficient to spot weld the tissue.

Abstract:

A board-type game to be played by two or more players. The game includes lasers where players selectively divert the path of the laser beams. The board apparatus comprises a surface, bounded by a frame, over which laser beams are directed down symbolic rows and columns which constitute a matrix of squares. Each square is a subregion of the surface piece, and is bounded along its four sides by raised edges which are parallel and perpendicular rows and columns of the board. The raised edges, creating recessed squares, assist in orienting the playing pieces. Playing pieces may contain no mirror, one mirror, or two mirrors (oriented back-to-back to produce separate surfaces reflecting in opposite directions). Playing pieces are placed in a predetermined “starting” configuration on the squares of the gridded surface piece. Depending on whether a playing piece contains a mirror or not, said piece may reflect an incident laser beam from a row to a column or from a column to a row. A laser is placed in a predetermined position, in front of each player. The players alternate in moving pieces from square to square or rotating pieces in place, on the gridded surface, with the object of either directing their laser beam toward the opponent's “key” piece or preventing their opponent's laser beam from reaching their own “key” piece.

Abstract:

Medializing the middle turbinate in the nose has been realized as a solution to the common complication of adhesions following nasal and sinus surgery. The invention provides a system for medializing the middle turbinate by attaching the middle turbinate temporarily to the nasal septum. The attachment is performed using a wafer with means on both sides for attaching the wafer to a mucosal surface. The attachment may also be performed using a tissue adhesive, pins, or other medical devices described herein. The invention also provides a system for attaching the uvula to the nasopharyngeal side of the soft palate. The invention provides a medical device for use in the inventive procedures as well as methods for the procedures and kits for use by a physician.

Embodiments are directed towards enabling users to customize data collection and analysis. A collection computer may automatically detect and dynamically update each of a plurality of sensors that may be currently providing real-time data regarding at least one characteristic of a machine. At least one sensor may be selected for local storage of its corresponding real-time data at the collection computer. And at least one sensor may be selected for remote storage of its corresponding real-time data by a server computer. A template may be employed to remotely display at least one characteristic of the machine based on current real-time data provided by at least one of the sensors identified by the template. In response to the user selecting at least one sensor for remote display, the template may be modified to include the remote display of the at least one sensor's corresponding current real-time data.
