Abstract:
A location-code system provides user-specific location codes corresponding to locations. A user can provision the codes. When the user accesses a location-based service, the user can then provide the service with a location code. The service, perhaps with the assistance of a location-code provider, can then translate the user-specific location code into location coordinates that can be used to facilitate a location-based service. Further, the location-code system can provide global, or generic, location-codes for particular locations, which any user can use as a basis to indicate a location.

Abstract:
A method and system for performing text-entry by facilitating construction of a canned message on a wireless handheld device, the canned message being comprised of at least two canned message segments (i. e. , words and/or phrases). A user selects a first canned message segment from a first set of canned message segments displayed on the handheld device. Upon selection of the first caned message segment, the handheld device may display a second set of canned message segments. The second set of canned message segments may have at least one canned message segment that grammatically continues the first canned message segment selected. The user may select a second canned message segment from the second set of canned message segments. A composite of the first canned message and the second canned message may define the canned message.

Abstract:
A method for providing a call log entry for a transferred call is described. A subscriber using a subscriber terminal calls a first telephone number associated with a first party. The first party transfers the subscriber to a second party associated with a second telephone number. The first party sends the subscriber terminal a data message indicating that a call was transferred to the second telephone number. The data message contains the second telephone number and a time stamp indicating a time that the call was connected. As a result, the call log contains a call log entry for the call connected between the subscriber and the second party.

Abstract:
A method and system for allowing a user to select and save non-focusable objects presented by a browser application. The non-focusable objects may be objects that the browser application does not allow the user to select and save. The browser application may present the non-focusable objects as a list of objects, rather than as the non-focusable objects. The user may select an object from the list of objects and save a file that defines the object. As a result, the user may select and save the objects presented by the browser application even though the objects were presented as non-focusable objects.

Abstract:
A client terminal may present focusable objects and non-focusable objects on a display screen. The focusable objects are objects selectable by a user, while the non-focusable objects are objects not selectable by the user. A client terminal may receive web content that defines a non-focusable object and present the web content on a display screen. Additionally, the client terminal may execute computer instructions for converting the non-focusable object into focusable objects. The client terminal may present the focusable objects on the display screen so that a user can scroll through one or more of the focusable objects, select, and copy the one or more of the focusable objects.

Abstract:
A method for management of call tones (tones that a caller hears when they call a party) is described which is particularly suitable for use by wireless telephones. The management of call tones can by performed off line. The method includes a step of: a) downloading a call tone and associated identification data to the wireless telephone (e. g. , downloaded from a call tone website); b) establishing, on the wireless telephone a correlation between the call tone identification data and a contact entry stored in memory on the wireless telephone; and c) transmitting a message from the phone to a network server that includes the correlation established in step b). Subsequently, when a telephone associated with the contact entry calls the wireless telephone the call tone is provided to the calling telephone.

US Classification:

Abstract:
A method and system for generating a reply message limited to a maximum number of characters based on a dynamic variation of an original message length. A messaging client receives the original message and delivers the original message text for presentation to a user. If the user opts to reply to the original message, the messaging client generates the reply message by including the user's reply message text and only so much of the original message text as will fit in a remaining capacity of the reply message. The method and system is particularly useful in a Short Message Service (SMS) messaging system, but may be useful in other systems as well.
