Abstract:

In a dispersion containing acrylic polymer microparticles, particularly useful in automotive coatings, the dispersion is formed by free radical addition copolymerization of unsaturated monomers in a hydrocarbon dispersing medium in the presence of first and second polymeric dispersion stabilizers. The first polymeric dispersion stabilizer has an acrylic backbone and polyester side chains, and the second polymeric dispersion stabilizer is a branched polyester formed from the reaction of polyol, polyacid or anhydride, and fatty acid.

Abstract:

Coating compositions are provided which include a polysiloxane comprising at least one reactive functional group and at least one material comprising at least one reactive functional group. Also provided are multi-layer composite coatings formed from a basecoat deposited from a pigmented coating composition and a topcoat applied over the basecoat, the topcoat deposited from the aforementioned coating composition. A method for improving the scratch resistance of a coated substrate, as well as coated substrates also are provided. The compositions of the invention provide highly scratch resistant coatings, particularly highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings.

Abstract:

Coating compositions formed from at least one hydroxyl functional non-vinyl material comprising at least one alcoholic hydroxyl group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent are provided by the present invention. Abstract:

The present invention provides a reaction product of reactants comprising: a) a polyisocyanate; b) a hydroxyalkyl carbamate; c) an aldehyde; and d) at least one monohydric alcohol. Additionally provided is a composition of matter comprising the structure: where Q is a multi-valent organic moiety containing urethane linkages; X is H, âCH OH, or âCH ORâ; Râ is an alkyl or aryl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; and y is at least 2. The reaction product and composition of matter are suitable for use as crosslinking agents in a variety of curable compositions further comprising at least one polymer having functional groups that are reactive with the crosslinking agent.
