Abstract:
A system and method for authoring and playback of multimedia content together with sharing, interconnecting and navigating the content using a computer network is disclosed. Creation, presentation and sharing of multimedia content and applications takes place within an active authoring environment, where data is always “live,” and any piece of content can be played alongside any other piece of content at any time. In this environment, there are no formal delineations between one “presentation” and another based on such things as file boundaries, other data storage constructs or the like. Instead, any piece of content can potentially be part of the “current” presentation at any time simply by being “started. ” As a result, three factors become critically important: (1) the framework in which content is organized, stored and distributed; (2) the control mechanisms by which content is played and presented, and (3) as with any authoring system, the methods and means by which users create and edit content. In each of these areas, the present invention makes significant innovations which are highly complementary, resulting in a new type of software application that seamlessly integrates authoring, playback and networking in an active, shared, rich media environment optimized for personal communications.

Abstract:
A wireless data platform comprises a plurality of processors. Channels of communication are set up between processors such that they may communicate information as tasks are performed. A dynamic cross compiler executed on one processor compiles code into native processing code for another processor. A dynamic cross linker links the compiled code for other processor. Native code may also be downloaded to the platform through use of a JAVA Bean (or other language type) which encapsulates the native code. The JAVA Bean can be encrypted and digitally signed for security purposes.

A cache memory architecture 50, which may be, for example, a set associative cache memory, has a cache controller (52) with an internal register for storing the address of the active line currently latched in the output buffer of the high speed cache data array (56) which stores the cached data values from the main memory. If a memory access request specifies an address which would be contained in the active line, the cache look-up mechanisms are disabled and the data is taken from the output buffer. The efficiency of the cache can be increased by linking a program to memory such that the number of cache lines used by one or more program loops are minimized.

A transparency engine provided between client applications and a database can include a connection pool (e.g., UCP connection pool). The transparency engine can operate as a proxy engine for the database and as a session abstraction layer for the client applications, to enable the client applications to utilize features provided by the connection pool without code changes. The transparency engine can receive application connections from the client applications, and concentrate the application connections on a smaller number of database connections maintained in the connection pool.
