Abstract:

A disposable insertion tip for a body cavity cleaning or irrigation device includes at least one tear strip. Once attached to the cleaning device, the insertion tip is sealingly locked in a predetermined position permitting liquid to be dispensed into a body cavity and used liquid to be returned from the body cavity through respective interior chambers provided in the insertion tip. The tip cannot be removed without first tearing the tear strip, which once torn, disables the sealing capability of the tip relative to the cleaning device. The insertion tip is preferably made from a transparent material which permits a user to view the efficacy of a cleaning procedure and to note when removal of the tip is required.

Abstract:

A body cavity irrigation system includes a housing having at least one interior chamber which is connectable to a faucet or other continuous fluid supply which delivers liquid under pressure through an inlet port. A discharge port of the housing is fluidly interconnected to an irrigation syringe having an actuable valve to control the dispensing of liquid from the housing to a body cavity through a discharge opening under controlled pressure. The liquid being dispensed can be monitored to ensure that the liquid is at an preferred temperature for effectively cleaning the body cavity without patient discomfort, the housing including an antiscald valve which prevents liquid above a predetermined temperature from being dispensed and in which at least one indicator indicates to the user that the liquid is above a second predetermined temperature whereby the first and second temperatures define a suitable temperature range. The system removes discharged water from the body cavity through an insertion tip of the syringe along a return path extending to the housing which includes a venturi which removes the discharged water.

Abstract:

An intraoral dental instrument includes an elongate handle or body and a mirror that is releasably attachable to a distal end thereof. An LED housing disposed in the handle proximate a light entrance surface of the mirror includes a housing body sized to retain at least one LED and a reflector attached to a distal end of the housing body. The reflector has an inwardly tapered cavity covering a LED lens envelope for focusing illumination from the at least one LED onto a portion of the light entrance surface of the mirror.
