Abstract:

There is a coated, dynamic contact surface. The contact has a substrate and a carbon-based coating on the substrate. The coating has a coefficient of friction of about 0. 5 or less and an atomic hydrogen content of about 5% to about 25%. There is also a mechanical system. There is a method for increasing oil-out survivability in a mechanical system.

Abstract:

A system for transmitting power and data through a solid medium includes a power signal transmitter configured to acoustically transmit power through the solid medium to a power signal receiver using a first frequency and a data signal transmitter configured to acoustically transmit data through the solid medium to a data signal receiver using a second frequency. The second frequency may be offset from the first frequency and from at least a first overtone of the first frequency. Furthermore, the data signal transmitter and data signal receiver may be positioned at a null of a pattern of acoustic waves produced by operation of the power signal transmitter. The system may further include a notch filter coupled to receive an electrical output of the data signal receiver, the notch filter being tuned to attenuate the first frequency.

Abstract:

A method for increasing oil-out survivability in a mechanical system having a plurality of components each having a least one surface, includes placing at least one of the plurality of components into a vacuum chamber having at least one broad-beam ion gun; supplying an inert gas to the broad-beam ion gun; accelerating the ionized inert gas to high kinetic energy; cleaning the surface of the component with the ionized and accelerated inert gas; supplying a hydrocarbon gas having at least 25 wt % acetylene to the broad-beam ion gun; ionizing the hydrocarbon gas; accelerating the ionized hydrocarbon gas to high kinetic energy; and directing the ionized and accelerated hydrocarbon gas to the surface of the component at a temperature of about 300 F. or less to deposit a carbon-based coating thereon.

Abstract:

Accelerated data acquisition using two-dimensional (“2D”) radio frequency (“RF”) pulse segments as virtual receivers for a parallel image reconstruction technique, such as GRAPPA, is provided. Data acquisition is accelerated using segmented RF pulses for excitation, refocusing, or both, and undersampling k-space along a dimension of the RF pulse segments. In this way, parallel image reconstruction techniques, such as GRAPPA, can be adapted to work with a single RF receive coil. By undersampling the data acquisition and finding correlations between the data from different segments, unsampled data can be recovered. This shortens scan times, yielding the advantages of segmented pulses without the formerly required long scans.
