Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for forming two orthogonally polarized beams of light from an unpolarized beam of light using one of at least two different image modes, the forming includes a color filtering process that is based on the image mode being used, and projecting the two orthogonally polarized beams to form an image on a viewing surface. Methods and apparatus for separating an unpolarized light beam into four beams as a function of wavelength and polarization; selectively modulating the four beams respectively using four light valves; and combining the four modulated beams to generate two orthogonally polarized light beams.

Abstract:
Video processing for enhancing contrast includes detecting the ambient light levels on a display, performing local contrast enhancement processing to emphasize the luminance component based on the detected ambient light levels to provide a processed video signal, and presenting the processed video signal on the display.
A container, such as a can, has an outer surface including having a bottom surface and a top surface. The bottom surface is capable of engaging the top surface of another container for stacking the containers. A connection mechanism has a pair of complementary components carried by the outer surface of the container wherein one of the pair of complementary components is carried by the container engages the other of the pair of complementary components carried by another container for securing the containers together.
A pack has a flexible pouch having a pair of planar sheets. The sheets each have a top, a bottom, and two opposite side edges. The sheets are secured together along their top, bottom, and side edges to form a compartment. A gel is carried in the compartment of the pouch. The gel is capable of being cooled and retaining the lack of heat. A plurality of magnets is carried in the compartment of the pouch. In an embodiment, the magnets are permanent magnets. In an embodiment, the permanent magnets are formed of a rare-earth alloy. In an embodiment, the gel is capable of being heated and retaining the heat. In an embodiment, the gel is capable of being cooled and retaining the lack of heat. In an embodiment the gel is a non-toxic biodegradable gel.

Abstract:
Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with a data view for clinical data are described. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a request from a user to view summarized case report form (CRF) data, where the CRF data corresponds to a plurality case report forms (CRFs) stored in one or more normalized transactional tables. A view query is constructed based, at least in part, on the request and executed on one or more denormalized summary tables to construct a view. The denormalized summary tables store selected CRF data from the normalized transactional tables and are updated concurrently with each update to the transactional tables. The method includes rendering the view for display.

Abstract:
A diagnostic testing device is disclosed. The testing device includes a base member and a cover member which defines an opening for the reception of a liquid specimen. A distribution wheel delivers portions of the specimen to antibiotic units which are circumferentially spaced. Indicator units are in communication with the cover member. A delivery cylinder extends upwardly from each of the antibiotic units toward a respective one of the indicator units. Relative vertical movement between the delivery cylinder and the indicator unit places the cylinder and the indicator unit into an engaging relationship. A change in coloration at an indicator unit indicates a positive reaction.

Abstract:
A device for performing agglutination immunoassay reactions and the like is disclosed. The device includes a first hydrophilic layer, a second liquid-occlusive layer parallel to and overlying the first layer, and a third layer parallel to and overlying the second layer. The third layer has a transparent opening for observing particles. The second layer is interposed between and in adherent relationship to the first and third layers. The second layer has at least one slot defining a channel for directing liquid conducted by capillary action through the chamber defined in conjunction with the first and third layers. This chamber has a proximate zone and a distal zone. The geometry of the chamber is modified to provide preferably outwardly diverging walls and provide a flowpath having different rates of flow per unit area along the paths. This arrangement of different paths in the chamber allows agglutination reactions in the chamber to result in the formation of a non-random pattern of aggregated particles in the distal zone of the chamber. Such a non-random pattern is more readily observable than a random pattern of aggregated particles.

Abstract:
A flat rigid rectangular plate has four corners bent down to form rigid V-shaped points to grip on an ice surface. The plate is larger than an adult hand and serves as a hand-held paddle in water. A longer spike or triangular point extends away from the plate at a right angle to the V-shaped points for gripping an ice surface through a snow cover. A handle extending from the top of the plate maybe equipped with a safety cord to loop over the wrist of the user. The handle may be permanently upright or foldable.
