Abstract:

The instant invention is a method for achieving a-planar framing configurations which enable the construction of hyperbolic paraboloid surfaces, a multiplicity of which join to create roof structures and enclosures. In particular, the shaping and erecting of connected a-planar quadrilateral frames to create under-framing which can be completed by a simple in-framing, and covered with sheeting material resulting in a new method of constructing enclosures with hyperbolic paraboloid faces without the use of highly trained crews, or the need for elaborate pre-forms or specialized connecting or covering elements.

The additional methods of assembly and erection of a hypershelter described herein make possible even greater strength-to-weight ratios and more efficient construction procedures than was possible at the time of the original application. The pre-stressed effects of the twisted framing members, and the progressively rotated orientations of the faces are strength enhancements; and the assembly of whole faces before erection makes possible a great deal of savings in the construction process. As a result of these improvements, it also makes it easier to create various embodiments of hypershelters, here called “domular” and “multi”, that were not noted previously.

Abstract:

The instant invention is an arrangement wherein a set of devices are enabled to signal each other either individually or as a group, and are attached, inserted, or integrated into various items in order to locate such items when they are lost, or to secure them, or otherwise keep track of them; or also any arrangement and deployment of electronic components, modules, etc (one example of which might be standard RFID chips such as are used in inventory control), such that a group of important but easily lost items, (such as wallet, keychain, calendar, and briefcase) can signal to one another so that a lost item can be “beeped” so that its whereabouts can be discovered. Additionally, the devices may be configured to signal the others if or when mutual contact is broken.

Abstract:

The instant invention employs the impressive capabilities of modern materials such as plastics, composites, and metal alloys of carrying large tension forces, enabling them to carry compression loads by converting the compressive force of internally contained pressurized fluids into distributed tension forces. The walls and membranes of the pressurized elements, and of the envelopes are not “inflated” as in structures made of flaccid or stretchable materials, but are made of substantially rigid materials whose rigidity is enhanced by the fluid pressures contained within. An important application of the principals set forth herein will be in the use of very high tensile strength materials such as titanium or aluminum that are not often considered for use in compression. The significant weight-savings so achieved make possible new applications that might include exotic airframes: lighter-than-air craft, or small robotic solar-powered aircraft to be used for survey, surveillance, or communication.
