Abstract:

A hybrid drop-in anchor includes an expansion sleeve. A split base region of the anchor body has a setting plug to be driven baseward by setting tool for preliminary setting in a borehole. The sleeve resiliently surrounds an external annular body recess of the body above a tapered base region portion, and has a clip arcuate portion extending at least most of the periphery around the external annular recess. Clip segments extend baseward from the arcuate portion. Each segment has proximal portion having a segment intrinsic radial thickness and includes a distal portion having at least one intrinsic projection, namely a boss, standing radially outwardly from the outer surface of the distal portion. The boss is raised from the outer surface of the distal portion without there being a corresponding cavity of said blank on an inner surface of the distal portion, to provide a projection of thickened total depth greater than the segment intrinsic radial thickness. After the setting plug is driven baseward, the threaded male member is inserted and tightened. Pulling movement of the anchor with contact of the segments with the borehole walls moves the expansion sleeve baseward, such that each segment rides radially outwardly resiliently on the tapered portion for baseward radial expansion of the anchor to cause corresponding locking, wedging engagement of each segment projection with wall surfaces for permanent setting of the anchor assembly in the borehole with increased tightness providing enhanced pull-out resistance.
