Abstract:
This invention relates to a pneumatic tire with puncture sealing property and a method for preparing such tire. Such tire is prepared by building an uncured butyl rubber-based layer, which contains a peroxide and a dispersion therein of a particulate precured rubber selected from pre resin-cured butyl rubber and/or pre sulfur-cured diene-based elastomer, into an uncured tire and between an innerliner layer and the tire carcass. Upon curing the prepared tire under conditions of elevated temperature, a major portion of the uncured butyl rubber composition is depolymerized to form a tacky material, which contains said dispersion therein of said particulate precured rubber, which has puncture sealant properties. Such layer of depolymerized butyl rubber and dispersed precured rubber particles may be collectively referred to as the sealant layer.

Abstract:
A tire is provided having a circumferential tread of a cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber based rubber composition reinforced with a carbon black/silica composite, wherein said carbon black/silica composite is a treated carbon black having silicon-containing domains, namely domains of silica, primarily on the surface of the carbon black, where said silica domains contain hydroxyl groups on their surface, wherein said silica domains cover at least 50 percent of the carbon black surface, and where said rubber composition contains a coupling agent as bis (3-triethoxysilylpropyl) polysulfide having an average of from 2 to 2.6 connecting sulfur atoms in its polysulfidic bridge, exclusive of a bis (3-trialkoxysilylalkyl) polysulfide having an average of greater than 2.6 sulfur atoms in its polysulfidic bridge; wherein said rubber composition contains from zero to a maximum of about 15 phr of unmodified carbon black and wherein said rubber composition contains from zero to a maximum of about 10 phr of precipitated silica and exclusive of any other carbon black and exclusive of any other silica.
Tire With Component Containing Wire Reinforcement Encapsulated With A Rubber Composition Comprised Of Cis 1,4-Polyisoprene Rubber And Liquid Polyisoprene
This invention relates to an unvulcanized rubber tire which has at least one wire reinforced rubber component which contains wire reinforcement encapsulated with an unvulcanized rubber composition comprised of natural cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber, and liquid polyisoprene polymer. The said encapsulation rubber composition of the tire component is then sulfur cured together with the curing of the tire itself. Such tire component may be, for example, a carcass ply and/or belt ply.
