Abstract:

Specific sequences in the human genome are the sites of strong binding of wild-type p53 protein, but not mutant forms of the protein. These sequences are used diagnostically to detect cells in which the amount of wild-type p53 is diminished. The sequences can also be used to screen for agents which correct for loss of wild-type p53 to DNA in cancer cells.

In one aspect, the invention comprises a method comprising issuing perpetual preferred securities that provide non-cumulative dividends with a fixed liquidation preference; wherein valuation of the securities upon redemption or conversion is based on market value of a specified number of common shares, and wherein the securities are operable to receive treasury stock method accounting. In various embodiments: (1) the securities receive C or D Basket treatment from Moody's; (2) the securities receive treasury stock method accounting because, upon conversion or redemption, common shares are issued only with respect to the valuation of the securities in excess of the fixed liquidation preference; and (3) upon conversion or redemption the number of common shares is equal to (A×B−C)/B, where A=a conversion rate, B=price per share of the common shares, and C=the fixed liquidation preference.

In one embodiment, the device 10 includes an elongated stud 15 defining an engaging surface 16 and a foot 20 projecting outwardly from an end 18 of the stud 15. A fastener 25 is provided for engaging the engaging surface 16 of the stud 15, having a surface 29 for bearing against the implant I to clamp the implant I to the bone B when the fastener 25 is engaged to the engaging surface 16 of the stud 15 and the foot 20 is received in the opening O. In another embodiment, the apparatus 30 includes a number of additional studs 31 which are extendable together through the opening O. A wedge 36 can be provided to clamp the multiple studs within the bone opening.
