Abstract:

Transaction-based behavioral profiling, whereby the entity to be profiled is represented by a stream of transactions, is required in a variety of data mining and predictive modeling applications. An approach is described for assessing inconsistency in the activity of an entity, as a way of detecting fraud and abuse, using service-code information available on each transaction. Inconsistency is based on the concept that certain service-codes naturally co-occur more than do others. An assessment is made of activity consistency looking at the overall activity of an individual entity, as well as looking at the interaction of entities. Several approaches for measuring consistency are provided, including one inspired by latent semantic analysis as used in text analysis. While the description is in the context of fraud detection in healthcare, the techniques are relevant to application in other industries and for purposes other than fraud detection.

Abstract:

Data is received that characterizes a plurality of procedures for a single event. Thereafter, one or more dynamically determined groups are associated with the plurality of procedures, the dynamically determined groups being generated from similarity metrics derived from a plurality of historical procedures for a plurality of historical events. A likelihood of the plurality of procedures being associated with the single event can then be determined based on the associated one or more dynamically determined groups. A healthcare insurance claim that includes variables characterizing aspects of a healthcare service for which reimbursement is sought is analyzed in order to determine whether there are any aspects that are indicative of fraud or error. Data characterizing one or more healthcare insurance claims is received. Each claim comprises variables characterizing aspects of a healthcare service for which reimbursement is sought. Abstract:

Measurements of biometric information of a user are obtained over time, such as blood glucose measurements. These biometric measurements are typically obtained by a wearable biometric information monitoring device being worn by the user. These biometric measurements are used by various different systems, such as a computing device of the user or a biometric information monitoring platform that receives biometric measurements from multiple different users. The biometric measurements are used for various security aspects, such as one or more of part of multi-factor authentication of the user, generating security keys (e.g., connection keys, encryption keys), identifying biometric measurements associated with different user identifiers but the same use, and protecting biometric measurements so as to be retrievable only by a recipient associated with an additional computing device, and so forth.
