Abstract:

Disclosed herein are systems that include: (a) an objective lens system configured to collect light from a sample; (b) a first aperture positioned to allow a portion of the collected light received from the objective lens system to pass as input light; (c) a first lens positioned to transmit the input light received from the first aperture; (d) a dispersive element configured to spatially disperse the input light received from the first lens in a first plane; (e) a second lens positioned to transmit the spatially dispersed light; (f) a second aperture positioned to allow a portion of the spatially dispersed light received from the second lens to pass as detection light; and (g) a detector positioned to receive the detection light and configured to form at least one image of the sample.

Abstract:

A vent cannula includes a tubular base having a primary longitudinal passage therein with a primary distal tip for insertion into a body vessel. The base has a tubular junction interconnected and extending at an acute angle having a secondary passage therein communicating with the primary passage. A flexible tube is slidably retained within the secondary passage. The flexible tube has a flexible distal portion with a flexible distal tip thereon, a flexible proximal portion with a side port therein and with a proximal handle. The flexible tube is initially positioned at a “first position” wherein the flexible distal tip is within the secondary passage; and is slideable to a “second position” wherein the side port of the flexible proximal portion is at the junction of the primary and secondary passages, and the flexible distal tip is inserted into the primary passage and extended from the primary distal tip to thereby extend the functional tip of the cannula. In a first embodiment, the proximal portion of the flexible tube is sealed within the base by a flexible sleeve; and in a second embodiment, the flexible tube is sealed with elastomeric washers retained between the base and an end cap.

Abstract:

Processes and reaction mixtures including non-aqueous solvent mixtures are presented. Non-aqueous solvent mixtures including fluoride salt and non-aqueous solvent combinations are provided that possess high fluoride ion concentrations useful for a range of applications, including organic synthesis. Further non-aqueous solvent mixtures are provided including a salt possessing a non-fluoride anion and a non-aqueous solvent that, when contacted with aqueous fluoride-containing reagents, extract fluoride ions to form non-aqueous fluoride-ion solutions possessing high fluoride-ion concentrations. The salts include an organic cation that does not possess a carbon in the β-position or does not possess a carbon in the β-position having a bound hydrogen. This salt structure facilitates its ability to be made anhydrous without decomposition. Example anhydrous fluoride salts include (2,2-dimethylpropyl)trimethylammonium fluoride and bis(2,2-dimethylpropyl)dimethylammonium fluoride. The combination of these fluoride salts with at least one fluorine-containing non-aqueous solvent (e.g., bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)ether; (BTFE)) promotes solubility of the salt within the non-aqueous solvents.
