Abstract:

A method for initialization of secure communication between a network resource and a client via a network. The method includes receiving an access at the network resource from a management application of a client. In response to the access, configuration parameters are generated for initializing secure communication with the client via the network. Security configuration information is printed showing the configuration parameters. The security configuration information is for enabling manual input of the configuration parameters into the management application. Secure communication is implemented with the management application in accordance with the configuration parameters.

Abstract:

In one embodiment of the present invention, a configuration information generation method receives an indication to begin the configuration information generation method. A determination is made which versions of a simple network management protocol a network device supports, wherein the versions support a security feature. Information is forwarded for inclusion in a printout, wherein the information includes an indication of which versions of the simple network management protocol the network device supports.

Abstract:

A method and system for exchanging private data over an insecure network using public key encryption is disclosed. The method and system provides for generating a public/private key pair of a network peripheral, exposing the public key of the network peripheral in a network management protocol, receiving encrypted configuration data from a remote network configuration protocol tool, decrypting configuration data with the private key of the network peripheral and applying decrypted network configuration data to the configuration of the network peripheral.
