Abstract:

An imaging system is disclosed for use in low-light environments or environments where low-levels of such radiation is desirable. Examples of such environments are endoscopy, laparoscopy, mammography and night photography. In the case of radiation that is other than visible light, a radiation converter and method for fabricating same is disclosed. The radiation converter comprises a film of heavy scintillator (e. g. CdWO ) coated on a fiber optical window to efficiently convert the radiation into visible light. The visible light is passed into a signal amplifier employing a focussing electron-bombarded charge-couple device (FEBCCD) or a focussing electron-bombarded complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (FEBCMOS) to amplify the signal. Novel methods of performing three-dimension imaging using this system as well as removing the effects of high-speed movement are also disclosed.

Abstract:

Perovskite materials useful in the manufacture of photovoltaic cells are provided. The perovskite materials have the formula AB′B″Xor A′A″B′B″X, wherein A, A′, and A″ are organic or inorganic cations, X is a halogen ion, B′ is tin, and B″ is germanium. Embodiments of the mixed tin and germanium halide perovskite materials possess a direct bandgap within the optimal range of 0.9-1.6 eV and have an optical absorption spectrum that is comparable to the state-of-the-art methylammonium lead iodide perovskites. The perovskite materials provided herein have been formulated to be lead-free.

Abstract:

A negative electrode for a rechargeable battery comprises a zinc oxide member doped with one or more metals and thereafter coated with a conductive layer of carbon or carbon doped with an element selected from the group consisting of fluorine, nitrogen, boron, and a mixture of two or more thereof. The electrode material is prepared by admixing ZnO or doped ZnO with carbon or a carbon-based material and then heating the admixture to form ZnO with a conductive layer. The ZnO can be doped with a first metal and then a second metal.
