Abstract:

An apparatus for nonsurgically removing certain IUDs, such as 7- or T-shaped IUDs, from within the uterus via the cervical canal. The apparatus is composed of: a rod-shaped handle; a tube, one end of which slidably fits over one end of the handle such that the handle may slide within the tube from a first position to a second position; a hole in the other end of the tube; and a filament that extends between and is attached to the other end of the handle and the other end of the tube via the hole. The filament is wrapped snugly about the other end of the tube when the handle is slid to its first position and the filament defines an outwardly extending loop when the handle is slid to its second position, which loop is used to entrap the IUD.

Abstract:

An osmotically driven fluid dispenser that is capable of being miniaturized and used as an implant to administer fluid drug compositions to animals and humans. The dispenser comprises a flexible inner bag adapted to contain the drug composition, a fluid tight plug fitted into the bag opening, a port in the plug through which the composition may be charged to the bag, an intermediate layer of an osmotically effective solute composition partly covering the bag exterior such that a band of the bag exterior proximate to the plugged end is not covered by the layer, an outer shape-retaining semipermeable membrane covering the layer of solute and forming a fluid tight seal at said band, and a tube that fits snugly through the port in the plug and extends substantially into the interior of the bag after the drug composition is charged to the bag, said tube providing an outlet through which the drug composition may be dispensed.

Abstract:

A film guide mechanism for use in rolling loop film transport mechanisms minimizes film wear and permits higher film speeds on the order of 30 frames per second. The film is sandwiched in its path of travel between a driven inlet drive sprocket and a shock double capstan, the inlet drive sprocket having a plurality of teeth that mate with perforations along each edge of the film and that also mate with grooves in the shock double capstan that is in turn frictionally driven by the driven inlet drive sprocket. The driven inlet drive sprocket and the shock double capstan are slightly concave in shape to prevent contact between these components and the central emulsion area of the film. A fixed inner guide having a radius in an area adjacent the shock double capstan that matches the radius of the shock double capstan and a spring-loaded shock double capstan slide on which the shock double capstan is mounted provide a variable gap to accommodate any backlash or shock rebound of the film as it passes through the gap prior to capture by a rotor of the film transport mechanism. A selectable stop engages the shock double capstan slide to prevent narrowing of the variable gap beyond a predetermined minimum.

Abstract:

In a rolling loop motion picture apparatus, such as a projector or camera, the movie film is pressed against a film supporting surface disposed within a light path. In order to be cleaned, the film supporting surface is moved out of the light path to an inoperative position opposite a sheet of material formed of an inert polyurethane material to which particulate contaminants adhere. The sheet is moved into contact with the film supporting surface, whereby the particulate contaminants adhere to the sheet. Then the sheet is retracted from the film supporting surface, along with the particulate contaminants. The film is guided between fixed and movable guide surfaces. The movable guide surface is spring-biased downwardly against the top edge of the film and is constrained against horizontal movement.
