An improved braked or snubbed joint assembly for use for supporting a grapple, clam shell or like device, is disclosed. The present braked or snubbed joint assembly includes a first member including an element defining an elongate cylindrical bore therethrough having a central axis, and first and second outwardly tapered or conical convex axial end faces. A second member having first and second arms defining a space therebetween receives the first member, and an axial pin rotatably joins the first member and the second member. The second member includes an element located in the space which has a correspondingly tapered or conical concave axial end face positioned in spaced opposed relation to the first outwardly tapered or conical convex axial end face and the second arm includes an element located in the space which has a correspondingly tapered or conical concave axial end face positioned in spaced opposed relation to the second outwardly tapered or conical convex axial end face. Frictional brake elements are disposed between the opposed axial end faces for frictionally resisting or braking relative rotation of the first and second members.

Abstract:
A tree harvesting apparatus is provided. The harvesting apparatus comprises a frame member, a cutting device mounted to the frame member, and at least one cutting member attached to the cutting device. A tree accumulation member is also provided and overlays at least a portion of the cutting device. Also provided is a tree securing device for securing at least one tree on the tree accumulation member, and an adjustment device for automatically adjusting the position of the tree securing device relative to the frame member.

Abstract:
A control system for a mobile machine is disclosed. The control system may have an engine configured to propel the mobile machine, at least one operator input device configured to indicate a desired engine speed and a desired mode of operation, and a controller in communication with the engine and the at least one operator input device. The controller may be configured to make a comparison of a current torque of the engine to an available torque, and to selectively adjust a speed of the engine from the desired engine speed based on the desired mode of operation and based on the comparison.

Abstract:
In a forestry operation, it is desirable to associate certain information, such as size, species, owner, or the like, with individual logs. Logs are normally stored for a time before processing, and an operator must be able to select certain logs meeting predetermined characteristics from the plurality of stored logs. The present invention provides a method and apparatus for labeling logs in such a way that the information associated with each log may be read from a remote location and the operator need not travel to each log to determine the characteristics of that log.
An apparatus and a method for controlling an engine are disclosed. Control means () may control a power output of an engine () configured for propelling a machine. Detection means () may detect a reverse driving direction operation of said machine. The control means are arranged for controlling the power output of said engine in response to detecting said reversed driving direction operation.
