A method is provided for internally monitoring pressure of a patient by transmitting an external light source to an implantable microsensor device. The implantable microsensor device has a microlens, a deflectable membrane responsive to a change in pressure of a surrounding environment within the patient, and an array structure disposed between the microlens and the membrane. The array structure includes a first layer that emits a first wavelength of light and a second layer that emits a second wavelength of light responsive to an external light source, where the first and second wavelengths of light are respectively transmissive through the surrounding environment and distinct from one another. Either the array structure or the microlens translates with the membrane in response to the change in pressure of the surrounding environment. The implantable microsensor is compatible with medical imaging devices and does not require an internal or external power supply.

Abstract:
A retained object tag, and a method of detecting the presence of a retained object or the retained object tag in a medical image. The method can include different steps such as identifying one or more potential sites in the medical image where the retained object or retained object tag may be present. The method can also include analyzing one or more features of the identified potential site against one or more predetermined properties of the retained object or the retained object tag. And the method can include determining whether the identified potential site is a retained object or a retained object tag based in part or more upon the analyzed feature.

Abstract:
A compact lens system for imaging a sample comprising a substrate having a well formed therein. Index matching material is disposed in the well and a lens member is further disposed in the well in optical contact with the index matching material disposed in the well. A spacer member extends from at least one of the substrate and the lower transparent member to define a spacing from a focal point of the lens member, wherein the lens member and index matching material cooperate to image a sample disposed below the lower transparent member.
