Abstract:

A bed assembly (10) having a generally rectangular frame (22) and a mattress support (62, 64, 66, 68), the mattress support including a hinged head section (14) movable between raised and lowered positions, and an extender (76) supported by the hinged head section for extensible and retractable movement, the extender bridging the space between a headboard assembly (18) and the hinged head section when the hinged head section is in a raised position. An extender operating assembly (112) is provided for causing the extender to be extended towards the headboard assembly when the hinged head section is raised and for causing the extender to retract when the hinged head section is lowered.
