Abstract:

A vertical turbine comprising a plurality of fluid capture element layers, where each layer provides a plurality of fluid capture elements. The layers are radially offset, thereby providing a spacing between vertically-adjacent fluid capture elements. This spacing permits fluid to flow around the fluid capture elements that are turning into the direction of fluid flow, thereby reducing back-pressure on the device while maintaining a large fluid capture profile. The turbine provides a low rpm, high-torque power generation device which may be used to generate electricity, or to provide direct applications such as pumping.

Abstract:

A can crusher includes a base, a handle pivoted to the base, crusher plates pivoted to the base and handle, and guide means to maintain the plates parallel. The crusher is made of slightly flexible plastics material, is assembled by snapping it together without separate fasteners, and is hollowed out for lightness and strengthened and rigidified with strategically placed ribs.

Abstract:

A reclosable fastener includes an insert element and a retention element. The retention element has a plurality of discrete, spaced projections extending generally orthogonally from at least one side edge of one of the opposing surfaces. At least one of the projections has a free end that includes a hook portion extending generally orthogonally from the projection toward the central longitudinal axis. The fastener operates in first and second conditions. In the first condition the fastener is open and the insert element is disengaged from the retention element, and in the second condition the fastener is closed and the insert element engages the retention element. In moving from the first condition to the second condition the insert element engages the retention element by overlaying onto the retention element and being pressed into place. In moving from the second condition to the first condition the insert element disengages from the retention element by peeling from the retention element.

Abstract:

Protective, sealing cover made of flexible material for easy application over an exposed end of a cut reinforcing bar. The cover contains a water impermeable sealant which surrounds the end of the cut bar during the process of applying the cover. A dual function tool facilitates the process of cover application by first positioning the cover then setting a locking means to secure the cover to the bar.
