Abstract:

A golf mat for practicing golf shots is disclosed that accurately simulates the feel of natural turf, while at the same time has no moving portions and is readily transported by the golfer. The device has a base member formed of a resilient plastic material, such as polycarbonate, that is supported by multiple feet formed of a resilient foam material. A layer of tufted material defining a golf ball hitting surface, which may be greige goods material having a non-hardening elastomeric adhesive secondary backing, is attached to an upper side of the base member at discrete, spaced apart areas. The tufted layer, which may be attached to the base member by adhesive bonding, is attached to the generally rectangular base member only at areas adjacent to the corners of the base member. The tufted layer should be attached to the base member at the minimum number of points to improve the simulation of natural turf. Layers of friction reducing material, such as polyethylene plastic, are interposed between the tufted layer and the base member to minimize the shear forces between these elements when the golf mat is stuck by the golf club head.

Abstract:

A Ground Simulator for hitting and for practicing self shots of various types comprising, a frame, and multiple layers which are disposed in spaced relation to each other on the frame. Resilient members are used to connect the layers to the frame and to adjust the relative tension of each of the layers. Additionally, a fixed base attachment for operative connection the Ground Simulator as above described including, a base having connectors to enable the fixed base attachment to be fixed to any type of surface, and guide means on the Ground Simulator and the base for restricting the sideways movement of the ground simulator. Additionally, a Ground Simulator as above described in combination with a stance assembly including, a connecting means for connecting the stance area to the Ground Simulator, and a top standing layer to adjust the relative position and height of the stance area relative the upper surface of the Ground Simulator.

Abstract:

A golf practice aid is disclosed which will provide a visual indication of the path of the club head during a golf swing. The golf practice aid has a base which is stationarily located on a support surface and to which is pivotally attached a friction surface assembly. A golf club head contacts the friction surface during a portion of the golfer's swing or stroke, which will cause pivoting movement of the friction surface assembly relative to the base should the path of travel of a club head not be aligned with the intended path of travel. An improper swing or stroke will cause the friction surface assembly to pivot about its attachment to the base. The friction surface assembly remains in a displaced position after the swing or stroke, enabling the golfer to view the golf aid and quickly ascertain any defects in the path of travel of the club head.

Abstract:

A pivoting golf mat assembly is disclosed which will provide a visual indication of the path of the club head during a golf swing involved in hitting a golf ball from the golf mat. The golf mat assembly has an anchor plate which is stationarily mounted on a support surface and to which is pivotally attached a golf mat having a hitting surface from which a golf ball can be struck. A plurality of support feet are mounted on the underside of the golf mat so as to slidably support the golf mat on the surface. Movement of the club head during the golfer's swing as it strikes a golf ball off the hitting surface of the golf mat will cause pivoting movement of the golf mat relative to the anchor plate should the path of travel of the clubhead not be parallel to the intended path of travel of the golf ball. The golf mat remains in the position after the ball has been struck enabling the golfer to view the golf mat and quickly ascertain any defects in the path of travel of the clubhead.
