Currently I am an aide in a second grade classroom where we utilize RTI, in collaboration with PLC to meet the needs of our students. Last year I was a second grade long term substitute in an inclusion classroom of 25 students using the Responsive Classroom philosophy. As a member of the second grade team, we collaborated on curriculum and incorporated input from experts in the school to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students. In 2009, I was a fifth grade long term substitute in an integrated classroom. The integrated model is co-taught by a full-time general education teacher and a full-time special education teacher, with a focus on language-based disabilities. The class ratio is 1/3 special education to 2/3 general education students. I taught math to the three fifth grade classes, using Everyday Math, as well as providing challenging and modified curriculum. I also supported students in Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. When not teaching at Angier I have been an aide in first, second and third grade classrooms. During my time as an aide, I provided support for the students I worked with and also taught guided reading groups, conducted reading assessments, and provided support in all curriculum areas. I did my student teaching in the third grade at the Cabot School in Newton, as well as the Peabody School in Cambridge in a combined rising first and second grade classroom. I have continued my training with courses in Kathy Richardson Math and Collaborative Problem Solving with Ross Greene.
