Abstract:
A knee bolster includes a curved bracket mounted to an associated cross beam of the vehicle. A knee panel member is mounted to the curved bracket at a location spaced from the associated cross beam. The panel member includes a laterally extending wall spaced from the curved bracket and support legs extending between the laterally extending wall and the curved bracket.

Abstract:
A hanger beam assembly is formed from aluminum and includes first and second support brackets, a main beam hanger, a driver beam, a main beam, a main beam support, and a main beam support mounting bracket. The driver beam extends between the first support bracket and the main beam hanger. The main beam extends between the main beam hanger and the second support bracket. The main beam support bracket is secured to a vehicle floor, and the main beam support is secured between the main beam hanger and the main beam support mounting bracket. The resulting hanger beam assembly is light-weight and provides a desired natural frequency at the associated steering wheel.
A vehicle knee bolster assembly including a cross member extending laterally across a vehicle and a knee bolster including a frame having a closed cross sectional configuration with a hollow interior. The knee bolster further has a plurality of partition walls dividing the interior of the frame so as to form, together with the frame, a plurality of inner frames each having a closed cross sectional configuration and a hollow interior. The plurality of inner frames define at least two crush zones that collapse sequentially as the knee bolster is forcibly deflected.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for a hood latch cable retaining system are described. A cable mounting cavity, such as a hole or slot for a conventional snap-fit cable fastener is provided in a latch support structure of the hood release mechanism. A retainer is mounted to the latch support structure and positioned such that a flange portion of the retainer is spaced a predetermined distance and offset from the center line of the cable mounting cavity. A confronting edge of the flange preferably includes a retaining cavity such as a slot positioned such that the center line of the retaining cavity is offset in relation to the center line of the mounting cavity. The control cable is installed into the hood latch support by placing a snap-fit fastener near the end of the control cable, slightly bending the cable around the spaced retainer, connecting the leading edge of the cable to the latch lever and then pressing the snap-fit fastener into the cable mounting cavity of the latch support structure. The latch support structure may be deformed or repositioned during a frontal vehicle impact, causing the retaining cavity of the flange to come into contact with the control cable. The retaining cavity impedes the snap-fit fastener from disengaging from the latch support structure, preventing the vehicle hood from inadvertently opening.

Abstract:
An access panel for a body of a vehicle is provided that includes a dome portion, a flat portion, and an extension portion. The dome portion has a reinforcing element. The extension portion extends from the flat portion. A floor panel structure for a vehicle is also provided that includes a metal sheet and an access panel. The metal sheet includes an aperture. The access panel includes a dome portion, a flat portion, and an extension portion. The access panel is coupled to the metal sheet over the aperture, and the flat portion and the extension portion are configured to transmit a downward force applied to the access panel to the metal sheet.

Abstract:
A vehicle body structure includes a floor connected to a main frame assembly. The main frame assembly includes first and second side rails and interconnecting cross-members. A front frame structure located near a forward part of the vehicle body structure is connected to the main frame assembly. The front frame structure includes first and second diagonal members and a laterally extending member. Each of the first and second diagonal members includes a forward end portion connected to the main frame assembly and a rearward end portion connected to the lateral member. The rearward end portions converge toward one another and the lateral member is connected to the first and second side rails. The front frame structure transfers an impact load caused by a narrow offset frontal collision from the first side rail to the second side rail by transferring the load through the front frame structure.
