Abstract:

A pressure control valve having a cage with an inlet and an outlet in fluid communication with an engine oil circuit is disclosed. The pressure control valve further has a spool in sliding engagement within the cage which blocks fluid communication between the inlet and the outlet when the spool is in the first position and places the inlet in fluid communication with the outlet when the spool is in the second position. A thin film coating is applied to an outer surface of the spool. The pressure control valve yet further has an actuator which controls movement of the spool slides from the first position to the second position. The coating reduces wear on the outer surface of the spool due to exposure of the spool to the engine oil and sliding engagement with the cage. A component of a hydraulic system is also disclosed.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for controlling the ratio of ambient air to recirculated gases in an internal combustion engine, wherein an gas injector includes a intake air conduit defining a ambient air flow path, an actuator connected to the intake air conduit, a recirculated gas conduit operatively coupled and disposed within the intake air conduit defining a recirculated gas flow path and a valve apparatus operatively coupled to the intake air conduit and recirculated gas conduit. The valve apparatus includes; a shaft, a throttle valve coupled to the shaft and in fluid communication with the ambient air flow and a recirculated gas valve coupled to the shaft in fluid communication with the recirculated gas flow. The shaft rotates one of the throttle valve and the recirculated gas valve independent of the rotation of the other one of throttle valve and said recirculated gas valve.

Abstract:

An exhaust system for a combustion source is disclosed. The exhaust system may have a passageway connected to receive an exhaust flow from the combustion source, and a sensor disposed within the passageway. The sensor may generate a signal indicative of the concentration of a constituent in the exhaust flow. The exhaust system may also have a controller in communication with the sensor to receive the signal. The controller may be configured to selectively communicate a flow of calibration gas with the sensor during operation of the combustion source, and compare the signal received during the selective communication with a reference value. The controller may be further configured to adjust the sensor output in response to the comparison.

Abstract:

Often, within a fuel system, water is separated from fuel and collected in a water collection housing that includes a water sensor. The water sensor senses and alerts an operator when the water level rises to a point where it should be drained from the water collection housing. Installation of the water sensor may require drilling holes in the water collection housing. In the present invention, a water sensor is installed in a fuel system by positioning a first portion of the water sensor inside a water collection housing, exposing a second portion of the water sensor outside the water collection housing, and connecting the first portion and the second portion of the water sensor, at least in part, by positioning a third portion of the water sensor in a water drain assembly. The water drain assembly is positioned within a drain opening included within the water collection housing. Because the third portion of the water sensor is included in the water drain assembly and the water drain assembly is positioned within the drain opening, the water sensor can be installed without drilling holes through the water collection housing.

Abstract:

In order to change a fuel filter within a fuel system, a fuel filter assembly in which the fuel filter is positioned is generally detached from the fuel system, allowing fuel to drain from and debris to enter the fuel system. The present invention reduces the draining of fuel from and the entering of debris in a fuel system by blocking, at least in part, fluid communication between the fuel system and the environment when the fuel filter assembly is detached from the fuel system. A valve is positioned within a fuel passage of the fuel system, and a valve engaging member is attached to a fuel filter assembly. The valve is closed, at least in part, by detaching the fuel filter assembly from the fuel system. When the fuel filter assembly is detached from the fuel system, the valve engaging member is out of contact with the valve. The valve is opened, at least in part, by attaching the fuel filter assembly to the fuel system. When the fuel filter assembly is attached to the fuel system, the valve engaging member is in contact with the valve.
