An improved building panel and attachment system for the production of structures with improved energy efficiency and fire safety characteristics. Panels are formed from a structural angle I™ beam with angles emerging from a web and forming dovetail shaped channels. The dovetail channels provide anchorage points for cross members within the panels as well as weather-stripping and mechanical joints between panels and a building frame. Fiberglass can be combined with Argon gas in the panels to significantly improve R-Values in commercial buildings. A fire safety system allows heat and smoke to be vented from the building during a fire, and for improved safety and effectiveness of fire fighting personnel. Improved insulating panels, daylighting panels with light attenuation and heat dissipation means, as well as solar panels for heating and cooling are shown. These can be assembled into a roof decks and walls to reduce building operating costs and create more attractive retail and commercial buildings.
A new design of vertical axis wind turbine is disclosed based on a dome structure using dome struts as blades that work in concert to produce rotational motion. The stability and low cost of the new design allows the turbine to function in low wind speed regimes as well as high speed winds that would be encountered in off-shore wind installations. The large stresses and structural requirements of mounting large horizontal axis wind turbines, particularly off-shore, are avoided with the new system. A new energy distribution system is proposed that will capture abundant off-shore wind energy, store it aboard a generator/delivery ship in the form of Hydrogen gas, and deliver it to an existing shore based power plant to produce electricity using a conventional gas turbine. Alternatively, the Hydrogen can be used to produce methane from coal using known processes to add natural gas to pipelines in areas that would normally be consuming the material. Both applications, and the direct production of heat by the new turbines, would stabilize our national energy grid while reducing CO2 emissions.
A renewable energy system for directly charging electric and hybrid vehicles is shown for areas with modest wind resources and/or solar resources. The invention consists of a composite stanchion for mounting on a base in a parking lot that is both capable of supporting a medium sized wind turbine (or solar array) and serving as a battery storage and charging control station. Significant improvements in blade pitch adjustment and cost reduction for wind turbine blades allow the system to operate at an acceptable cost in areas with modest winds and avoid the need for remotely supplied renewable electricity in areas of high population density. In turn, this will allow for increased electrical grid stability through increased use of distributed generation.
A tiered structural assembly for wind turbine blades that reduces stress on the airfoil profile is shown. The wind turbine blades and rotor assemblies for capturing the wind resources show significant improvements in both cost of manufacture and site assembly compared to three-bladed horizontal axis turbines. A simple, easily manufactured blade pivoting mechanism is shown to improve the performance of vertical axis turbines. A related improvement for varying blade pitch along the axis of horizontal axis turbine blades allows for production using continuous mass-production methods rather than the labor and cost intensive current practice of molding the blades. The blade assemblies are scalable and suited to areas with moderate wind resources.
An improved building panel and attachment system for the production of structures with improved energy efficiency and fire safety characteristics. Panels are formed from a structural angle I beam with angles emerging from a web and forming dovetail shaped channels. The dovetail channels provide anchorage points for cross members within the panels as well as weather-stripping and mechanical joints between panels and a building frame. The unique assembly method allows the insulation value and fire safety of the building to be radically improved over conventional commercial structures. Fiberglass can be combined with low thermal conductivity gases such as Argon to improve R-Values by about 40% over existing building stock. Heat and smoke can be vented from the building during a fire to slow the onset of flashover and the safety of fire fighting personnel can be enhanced when they reach the fire scene. Improved insulating panels, daylighting panels with light attenuation and heat dissipation means, as well as solar panels for solar heating and night sky cooling are shown. These can be assembled into a variety of functional roof and wall configurations for reducing building operating costs and creating more attractive retail and commercial buildings. Improved air distribution systems, and thin film collectors allow for production of an entire roof of collectors at a reasonable cost. Novel assembly methods allow for improvements in construction cost and safety. An advanced control system for balancing daylighting and artificial lighting is shown, along with a demand side management, (DSM), energy utilization system.
Biconcave Connector For Tubular Assemblies And Tool Handles
The present invention provides a handle with a biconcave-shaped cross-section that is suitable for a hand tool, a hand tool extension, a tool connector, a wheelbarrow handle, or any of a variety of devices that are to be gripped by the human hand. The biconcave-shaped handle of the present invention conforms to the contours of the human hand to provide a more ergonomic and comfortable handle for a wide variety of applications. The biconcave shape may also be used for connecting tubular members to assemble various structures such as a dome.

Abstract:
Adjoining strata of pressure-sensitive adhesive are transferred to a package substrate. The two outermost adhesive strata have different adhesion to the substrate. The adhesive strata are used as a reclosable fastener and are intermixed in the course of reclosing and reopening the package, the action being such as to advantageously compensate for contamination occurring at the reseal interface while maintaining the status quo at the permanent interface.
