Abstract:

An information storage device () includes a drive module () releasably coupled to an interface module (), where an information storage cartridge () can be removably inserted into the drive module in an approximately vertical direction. The drive module has a light source and magnifying lens which highlight indica located on the cartridge. Guide structure ensures that the cartridge can be inserted only with a single proper orientation. The drive module includes a display () which provides operational status information, and which is visible through an opening () provided in the interface module. The interface module has at least two ports () conforming to a selected communication protocol, to permit the information storage device to be daisy chained with other compatible devices. A button () for initiating cartridge removal is actuated in an approximately vertical direction.

Abstract:

A method for sterilizing a device, includes the following steps: contacting the device with liquid sterilant outside or inside a sterilization chamber at a first pressure, placing the device in the chamber before or after the contacting step, and decreasing the pressure of the chamber to a second pressure below the vapor pressure of the liquid sterilant. At least the decrease in pressure below about the vapor pressure of the liquid sterilant occurs at a pumpdown rate of less than 0.8 liters per second, calculated based on the time required to evacuate the chamber from atmospheric pressure to 20 torr when the chamber is empty and dry.

Abstract:

A field-sequential color architecture is included in a reflective mode display. The reflective mode display may be a direct-view display such as an interferometric modulator display. The reflective mode display may include three or more different subpixel types, each of which corresponds to a color. Data for each color may be written sequentially to all subpixels of the display. Flashing of a corresponding colored light, e.g., from a front light of the display, may be timed to immediately follow a process of writing data for that color. Colors other than the field color may be used to produce grayscale. The field color may correspond to the most significant bit (MSB) and the other colors may correspond to other bits.

Abstract:

An improved apparatus and method for measuring the concentration of hydrogen peroxide vapor or gas in a sterilization chamber. The hydrogen peroxide is measured spectrophotometrically in the ultraviolet region between 200 and 400 nm. Because water vapor does not absorb in the ultraviolet region, it does not interfere with the determination of the concentration of the hydrogen peroxide vapor. Although organic compounds have absorbances in the ultraviolet region, the organic compounds are removed by evacuating the sterilization chamber to low levels before doing the hydrogen peroxide determination. The ultraviolet light source is either a low pressure mercury vapor lamp with an emission at 254 nm or a deuterium lamp with an optical filter selective of 206 nm light. A movable gas cell can be used to measure the hydrogen peroxide concentration at various areas in the sterilization chamber. The measurement system can be combined with a feedback loop to control the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in the sterilization chamber.

An apparatus and process for hydrogen peroxide vapor sterilization of medical instruments and similar devices make use of hydrogen peroxide vapor released from an inorganic hydrogen peroxide complex. The peroxide vapor can be released at room temperature and atmospheric pressure; however, the pressure used can be less than 50 torr and the temperature greater than 86. degree. C. to facilitate the release of hydrogen peroxide vapor. The heating rate can be greater than 5. degree. C. Optionally, a plasma can be used in conjunction with the vapor.
