Abstract:

A wireless telephone ( ) digitizes the voice of the user in response to the depression of a push-to-talk button ( ), either physical or virtual. It sends the digitized voice, in data mode, to a base station ( ). The base station places the data, through the Internet, or an Intranet or Extranet, on a server ( ). Other wireless phones ( )-( ) recover the data from the server through the same ( ) or different ( ) base station, through the Internet, Intranet, or Extranet, and convert the data back to digitized voice. The base stations transmit the digitized voice to other wireless telephones ( ), which convert them back to voice in response to the recognition of voice frames on the data channel by the CODEC manager software. Networked computers ( ) may be configured to emulate a combined base station and wireless telephone. The server can dynamically designate any wireless telephone (or landline emulation) as the broadcaster, and can dynamically configure any set of telephones/emulations as the receivers of the broadcast.

Abstract:

A voice recognition system is disclosed wherein a feature extraction apparatus is located in a remote station. The feature extraction apparatus extracts features from an input speech frame and then provides the extracted features to a central processing station. In the central processing station, the features are provided to a word decoder which determines the syntax of the input speech frame.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatus to optimize delivery of multicast content using probabilistic feedback. A method is provided for transmitting data from a server to a plurality of receiving terminals. The method includes transmitting the data from the server to the plurality of receiving terminals, and generating a random response value at each receiving terminal. The method also includes comparing the response value to an acknowledgement value at each receiving terminal, and transmitting an acknowledgment signal to the server from selected receiving terminals. The selected receiving terminals are a portion of the plurality of receiving terminals where the response value has a selected relationship to the acknowledgement value.
