A system and method for performing counting operations for a plurality of components is disclosed. A memory stores a plurality of counts from different components. The memory is coupled to a counter and the plurality of counts are accessible to the adder for adding addends to the plurality of counts. A count engine controls the adding of the addends to the plurality of counts.

A digital video recorder employing standard hard disk arrays employs a caching system to enable continuous video data to be supplied to and provided from the standard disk drives which may not be adapted for continuous data stream operation. The system is implemented as an array of disk drives and includes cache management functions for governing disk read and write operations. A predictor enables the cache to predict disk reads and disk writes and to maintain the cache based on the predictions. Redundancy enables playback in the event of failure of a drive in the array and also provides improved playback data retrieval time.

Abstract:

A detachable and replaceable end effector assembly. The detachable mechanism is made of standard end effectors attached to an actuating tip and pinned inside a yoke assembly. Replacement is made by pulling back a spring loaded radial lock 90, to disengage two rear tabs 51 on the outer tip 50. The yoke assembly is then rotated 90 degrees to disengage the rear yoke pin 9 from the tubular shaft 70. This rotation of 90 degrees also unlocks the T-bar 45 from the front "T" slot of the long actuator 80. The end effector or jaw assembly is then free to be pulled away from the remainder of the shaft. In addition there is a bayonet connection to hold the parts together and prevent accidental disconnection.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a surgical grasper device that comprises a generally elongate housing member having a handle member at a proximal end and first and second grasping arms at a distal end. First and second grasping elements are preferably releasably attached to the first and second grasping arms respectively. The grasping elements are positioned on the arms in an opposed facing relationship to enable grasping a targeted surface such as living tissue between the elements. A gripping material at least partially covers or is otherwise incorporated into the surface of one or both of the grasping elements. The gripping material provides enhanced holding power to the targeted surface relative to the holding power provided by the grasping elements in the absence of the gripping material.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus is provided that solves the problem of data overrun and underrun, for example in a system that exchanges data using the Gigabit Ethernet protocol. A single 8-bit data path is provided as output and the main protocol state machines are kept running in the clock domain of the rest of the circuit, after an elasticity FIFO, so that no additional synchronization is necessary. The invention makes no demands upon the receive clock other than those specified in the relevant standard for duty cycle and accuracy. The invention correctly combines the two effective data streams back into a single data stream, only modifying the FIFO when it is acceptable to do so, and in a way that does not corrupt data packets passing through the FIFO. By providing a minimal set of logic running in the receive clock domain, it is possible to simplify the design of the main protocol state machines. Only a very small portion of the design must be aware of the dual-clock nature of the physical interface.
