Abstract:

An Adaptable kite/airfoil preferably for structured kites having effectively “reefable” sub-section(s) typically changing the effective width and/or length of the airfoil, thereby substantially changing the aerodynamic characteristics of the airfoil, using continuous sheet material sections not separated in flight use or in changing the kite aerodynamics. Abstract:

A power system for a phased-array radar system powers an antenna array with a single multiphase transformer. A plurality of AC/DC converters are connected in parallel between the single multiphase transformer and a common bus. The common bus is balanced with respect to chassis ground reducing noise and improving operating safety of the antenna. The AC/DC converters each has a multi-sloped characteristic which enables the converters to share power by modifying output impedance as a function of load without external control signals. The system also has several layers of fault detection.

Abstract:

The invention is an Intelligent Conveyor Adjustment System (ICAS). The ICAS gives the user a way to adjust guide rails and other devices used in a conveyor system with actuators that can receive instructions based on a specific communications interface, such an interface may consist of but is not limited to serial wired network, an 802.11 compatible network, a power line network, and as described in the examples a wireless network, in a fashion to position rails or other devices on a conveyor system or in machines associated with a conveyor system. The actuators can be but are not limited to varying types, linear, rotary, push/pull covered cable, flexible strips, lever, pivoting, scissor, or other dual actuating mechanisms. The ACMs are used to control the actuators which control the relative position and shape of guide rails on the sides of the conveyor as well as position of various other conveyor entities such as, but not limited to, timing screws, labelers, marking machines, barcode readers, and fillers.

Abstract:

The apparatus for analyzing a sample gas includes a source of microwave energy directed onto the sample gas to create a plasma. A spectrometer is arranged to receive light from the plasma to identify different elements and/or to determine the concentration of at least one element in the sample gas. In one embodiment, an attached calibration system is provided for calibrating the output of the spectrometer. The calibration system includes a nebulizer apparatus for introducing a controlled amount of at least one element into the sample gas. The apparatus also includes structure adapted to add a swirl component to the plasma gas flow as an aid to plasma confinement. It is also preferred that a pair of electrodes contacting the sample gas be provided for igniting the plasma.

Abstract:

A concentrated photovoltaic system () uses a semi-dense array of photovoltaic cells () in combination with a point-focus, reflecting primary concentrator () and a number of linear, refracting secondary concentrators (). The secondary concentrators () are configured as totally internally reflecting lenses, wherein each lens covers an entire planar receiver tile () holding a multiplicity of photovoltaic cells (). A large number of receiver tiles () may be used in the converter (). The cells () are arranged in dense, nearly abutting, sub-arrays () that are spaced apart from other sub-arrays (). Photovoltaic cells () from a few nearby sub-arrays are coupled in parallel to drive a DC/DC MPPT boost converter (). DC outputs from several boost converters () are series coupled to form a high DC voltage string which drives a DC/AC inverter (). AC outputs from several DC/AC inverters () are combined in a multi-winding transformer () to generate a sine wave with low harmonic distortion.
