Abstract:
A one piece, molded, insulating connector body (14) for a surface mounted, shielded, electrical connector (10), comprises a plug portion (16) projecting from the body (14) into a forward hood (68) thereto, for mating with a shielded electrical socket (18) inserted into the hood (68). There projects from a terminal receiving face (70) of the body (14), a terminal leg spacer plate (74) having notches for receiving the `U`-shaped retaining members (108) on the legs (100) of the terminals (95) in through cavities (62) in the body (14). Each leg (100) has a lance (112) for insertion in a hole (H) in a substrate (S). The legs (100), and cranked arms (102) connecting them to receptacles (96) of terminals (95), are so shaped and dimensioned that even where the cavities (62) are arranged in three superposed rows, the lances (112) can be inserted into the holes (H) where these are arranged in only two rows, and with a different spacing from that of the rows of cavities.

Abstract:
A one piece metal stamping forming an RF-EMI shield for an electrical connector has a central face portion and a pair of mating shell portions connected by respective bights to opposite sides of the face portion. The face portion is profiled to conform to the connector to be shielded and has an opening exposing the connector mating face. The shell portions have depending peripheral walls which overlap to enclose the rear portion of the connector and conductors extending therefrom. The subject shield is particularly suitable for electrical connectors which are overmolded with an insulative layer.

Abstract:
A one-piece metal shield (12) for a surface mounted connector (10) having a substantially rectangular body (14) from which a plug portion (16) projects forwardly, is in the form of a rectangular box-like structure having a top wall (24) side walls (26) and a front wall (28). The front wall (28) has a circular opening (30) from the periphery of which spring fingers (34) project inwardly of the shield (12) for engaging the shielding (19) of a shielded electrical socket inserted through the opening (30) to mate with the plug portion (16). The shield (12) is secured to the body (14) by means of flanges (48 and 50) thereon which engage with a snap action in grooves (82, 86) in the body (14). At least the side walls (26) have mounting legs (54) for securing the shield (12)and thus the body (14) to a substrate (S).

Abstract:
A method and connector are disclosed for terminating woven cable formed by a box woven yarn carrying a plurality of magnet wire conductors in a high density parallel spaced array. The cable is preformed with terminating areas in which the magnet wire is freed of the weave. The connector includes a base member, which receives the cable and positions the ground wires, an intermediate member including first ground terminals receiving the ground wires in the base member and receiving the signal wires thereon in a spaced array, and a mating member carrying second signal terminals for engaging respective signal wires and selective ground terminals for programming ground interconnect for the connector.

Abstract:
A cable clamp assembly in which a cable clamping member is easily and rapidly secured to a housing of an electrical connector so that the cable extends therefrom in either a 90. degree. or 180. degree. direction as selected. The assembly includes a pair of members which are snap fitted in an assembly on the rear of an existing electrical connector, and a cable clamping member which is selectively positioned between the cover members providing 90. degree. or 180. degree. exit for the cable.

Abstract:
A metal latching-ground block is used in conjunction with mating electrical connectors to form both a locking means and a ground path. One embodiment is a unitary block member which has mounting portions at both ends of the connector, each portion including a surface having a formed or captivated nut opening to receive fastening means from the mating member and a grounding tab acting in conjunction with the mounting means for the connector member. The other embodiment is individual latching-ground blocks received on each end of a connector member each block defining a pair of spaced surfaces having formed or captivated nut openings, each of which receives a respective fastener from each of the connector members to secure them together.
