Abstract:
The application relates to long acting injectable (LAI) formulations for combating ectoparasites and endoparasites in mammals. In particular, this invention provides for a LAI formulation comprising a subcutaneously volatile solvent, a biologically acceptable polymer, a bioactive agents and optionally one or more anti-ectoparasitically or anti-endoparasitically acceptable additive or excipient. Surprisingly, the liquid long acting injectable formulations of the invention solve the problems associates with previous injectable formulations by having long term stability, being able to accommodate smaller needle diameters and achieving long acting effects in the control of pests in a mammal. The unique formulations of the invention also allow for combating ectoparasites and endoparasites which have become resistant to macrolide antibiotics.
Methods For Selectively Treating Cox-2 Mediated Disorders By Administering Gamma-Tocopherol
The present invention is based upon the novel observation of the COX-II-specific inhibitory activity of gamma-tocopherol and that by combining gamma-tocopherol with precursors of connective tissue constituents, injured or degenerated connective tissue, especially of articulated joints of animal patients, may be repaired. The method of the invention for treating a inflammatory disorder of a joint comprises administering to the mammal a pharmaceutical composition comprising an amount of gamma-tocopherol effective in selectively inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 and at least one compound that elevates the production of a component of connective tissue in an amount effective for the promotion of connective tissue formation. The invention also provides pharmaceutical or veterinary compositions comprising a tocopherol preparation having at least 50% w/w gamma-tocopherol or a derivative thereof and in an amount effective for selectively inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 in the recipient mammal and at least one compound that elevates the production of a component of connective tissue.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for eliciting a disease modifying effect on an arthritic condition in a hip or stifle of a canine which comprises administering to the canine a therapeutically effective amount of a bisphosphonate. The present invention also relates to method for eliciting a disease modifying effect on hip dysplasia or stifle instability, the pain associated with hip dysplasia or stifle instability, joint swelling, shallowing of the acetabulum, narrowing of the joint space, subchondral bone sclerosis, preventing osteophyte formation and preventing joint destruction in a canine which comprises administering to the canine a therapeutically effective amount of a bisphosphonate.
This invention provides for a pharmaceutical or veterinary paste or gel formulation which may comprise an effective amount of a therapeutic agent; optionally an absorbent or a viscosity modifier; optionally a hydrophilic carrier, a colorant, stabilizer, surfactant, or preservative and optionally an antioxidant, solvent, flavoring, buffering system or thickener and methods of preparing these formulations. This invention also provides for, inter alia, oral homogeneous veterinary pastes or gels for the treating, controlling and preventing of endo- and ectoparasite infections in warm-blooded animals, such as birds, horses and household pets.
Long-Acting Injectable Analgesic Formulations For Animals
The invention provides methods and compositions for sequential dosing of capsaicin to treat knee joint pain in a patient, such as knee joint pain due to osteoarthritis, while minimizing transient burning sensation experienced by patients due to capsaicin administration.

Abstract:
The invention provides methods and compositions for treatment of pain, such as joint pain, using capsaicin in a procedure that attenuates transient burning sensation experienced by patients due to capsaicin administration. The methods desirably provide relief from joint pain, such as osteoarthritic knee joint pain, for an extended duration, such as at least about 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or 1 year. To attenuate the adverse side effect of a transient burning sensation caused by capsaicin-induced neuronal excitation, the methods utilize a cooling article, such as a material wrap cooled via a circulating fluid, to reduce the temperature of tissue to be exposed to capsaicin to within a certain range for certain durations of time, optionally in combination with administering a local anesthetic agent, resulting in the substantial reduction or even elimination of transient burning sensation caused by capsaicin.
