Abstract:

Embodiments of the present invention improve the accuracy of measurements and/or in vivo calibrations of a biosensor by (1) using more than one sensor signal value and/or more than one directly sampled and measured value, such as a capillary blood glucose value, and/or by (2) delaying the acquisition of a sensor output value that is compared with a directly sampled and measured value, such as a capillary blood glucose value, during a calibration. In an embodiment of the present invention, the median of a series of measured values, or a median or mean of the medians, may be utilized to provide more consistent and accurate measurement data and/or to compensate for error or artifact.

Abstract:

A system and method of marketing digital content such as audio and video works involves collecting recommendation information as to a specific digital work and a specific individual to which the digital work is being recommended. Preferably, this is accomplished by software that is provided in a second data session of a digital recordation of content, such as a CD or DVD, containing the digital work. The software gives the license holder the option to recommend one or more works on the digital recordation of content to a third party such as a friend. An Internet server receives the recommendation and contacts the third party using electronic mail, providing a unique link offering access to the recommended work on a limited basis for promotional purposes.

Abstract:

A digital recordation of content such as a compact disc includes a first audio session containing a work in a first digital file format as well as a second data session containing the same work in an alternative digital file format. The second data session also includes an executable program that installs software on a personal computer that is intended to frustrate accurate digital audio extraction of information from the first audio session, while directing the computer user to the content that is provided on the second data session. The content on the second data session is preferably controlled by a digital rights management protocol in order to prevent widespread unlicensed sharing of the content.

A method of operating a personal computer includes steps of determining whether a digital recordation of content that is readable by a hardware device in the personal computer is protected; and responsive to a determination that the digital recordation of content is protected, selectively limiting which software programs are permitted to access digital information from the digital recordation of content. Programs that are authorized to access the digital information may include a conversion program for converting the digital work to a compressed file format that will be stored on the hard drive of the personal computer in a format that is governed by a digital rights management protocol, secure player software that is enabled to play the digital work directly from the digital recordation of content and controlled copy software that permits copies to be made under specified licensing conditions.

A digital source of content such as a music album includes a storage media, which could be an optical disc such as the popular compact disc (CD) format for music albums or the digital versatile disc (DVD) format that is commonly used for consumer movie releases, and a digital work that is encoded in a digital format on the storage media. Information is advantageously encoded onto the storage media as well for enabling a copy management program on a personal computer to obtain advertising content that will be displayed on the personal computer. This information preferably includes a virtual address from which the advertising content may be retrieved, which could be a location on the storage media itself or an Internet address. The storage media further preferably includes an executable program for installing software on to the personal computer that may be used to play the digital work, monitor and report information that is relevant to the display of the advertising content to operators of the personal computer, and provide additional functionality such as copy management protection for the digital work.
